60,000 Miles What Service Do You Recommend

I have an 06 X5 3.0 and the car has been flawless. I've read the manual, but what do you guys recommend? It's in great shape and I want to keep it that way. Thanks.

Around 60K+ miles, "Inspection ll" comes up on the JukeBox. Whether you need
to do these things, (mostly "inspection" rather than R&R), is hard to say.

The usual items are suspect: water pump, coolant reservoir & fittings, brake
fluid change, etc.

Otoh, your car is only 3+ years old, with that mileage, and some of the usual
suspects may still be in good shape.

A good Indie whom you trust, with BMW/X5 experience, can probably do a
good job for a third less than a dlr, imo.
Others will have opins, I am sure, and my suggestions are not comprehensive...

Thanks for the info. The weather is supposed to be nice here this weekend, I guess I'll check off as many of those items as I can.

3.0 engine is brutally simple to work on. oil and filter changes a snap and basically all it needs.

tjcin1 11-21-2009 07:05 AM

Coincidentally, the oil needed to be changed about 1000 miles ago, so I did that when the lights indicated it. Thanks

sprocket1200 11-21-2009 01:16 PM

coincidentally? you should be following the lights for all your service, unless you have very low miles, which doesn't seem to be an issue.

tjcin1 11-22-2009 08:41 AM

Would the lights indicate a sevice at 60,000 miles even if the oil wasn't due? Just curious.

One thing that is cotnraversial here is flushing the life time trans fluid every 30,000 miles. I use mobil 1 it meets and exceeds BMW specs. I do this and my trans is at 99,300 miles. It shifts and performs like brand new.

In order to do a complete flush you'll need 14 qts. ( $135, cheaper and less aggravating than a new trans) drop the pan (a speed ratchet is helpful here), drain out the fluid, replace pan, pump in 3.5 qts qts of M1 Trans Fluid, drive 20 miles, repeat 3 more times. I replace the filter at every other change.

Like I said some say don't do it, BMW techs aven disagree but, I feel better changing it. With 60,000 miles and this gentle drain fill proceedure you will be fine and be very happy with the results. there's a DIY in the articles section. I'll try to find it and post the link.

Here's the link http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...y-02-4-4i.html it shows a DIY for the 4.4 the 3.0 is very similar. The DIY says to use 9 qts for a complete flush. my method makes me happy but changing 3 times is better than not doing it.

and here... Collecting Statistics on BMW auto transmission and Lifetime ATF - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum

I would also begin changing the oil every 7,500 miles, again contraversial but, yields good results.

i just had my 60k service done on my x5 and my indy told me I didnt need to have my spark plugs replaced yet?

I thought inspection II called for replacement of spark plugs?

flyingmachine 03-03-2010 03:05 PM

spark plugs are due at 100K which is about the 2nd inspection II. but many people replace them anyways at 1st inspection II.
