Exhaust Rich/Lean

Hi Everyone,

I have been noticing that my exhaust has become quite potent and not in a good way. You can't stand anywhere near (10-15Feet) the rear of my X while it is idling without having to move from the exhaust gas getting to you. Since I can really smell the gas that means it is running too lean right? Correct me if I am wrong there.

The engine feels great and is very responsive (no bogging) so I don't have any other reason to think that it running incorrectly other than the smell of the exhaust. Also, there is not smoke coming from the exhaust.

My X5 is a 2006 4.4 with 45k on it and it is completely stock. Almost broken in.

Perhaps this means I need a Dinan Intake, Exhaust, and tune :D

Opinion's are appreciated!

Thanks,

- Andy

Hey Andy I am very sorry to see that no one replied. I am having similar issues with my '02 3.0. Very distinct ammonia smell in the exhaust during idle, cant be anywhere near it (discovered while trying to attach my trailer while idling - impossible)! Did you ever find out what the problem was. I am currently investigating bad oxygen sensors as a possibility.
