Can you cut them for reuse??? or must be replaced?

It's hard to find the perfect answer since there is not enough emperical data, so the safest answer would be just get a new set.

I think initially, I am in the same boat as lot of people here, why trash a good set of rotors (I had the car since brand new and gentle on the brakes anyway).
But I also hate to find out later if I end up with shimmy, vibration, squeak, fade etc partway into the pads life etc.

well, that's what's happening right now hpia! when replacing brakes last year or so, my mechanic just proposed to change the pads and cut the rotors. and now, there's vibration going in when hitting the brake...

do you think i can go ahead and replace only the rotors, as pads are still good to go?

when replacing rotors on an x5, you must replace the pads also, per manufactures repair manual. rotors are never re-surfaced on bmw rotors. if the thickness is measured below spec, you must replace them,

I too replace the rotors on every brake job due to the reasons given above...

However, with that being said, and from the description you have given so far, it is not 100% guaranteed that your shake will be solved by replacing the rotors... A lot of us have replaced pads and rotors just to find out that the shakes continue and are due to some other part needing replacement.

For what it is worth, I am still searching for that part that needs replacement in my X5... :-)
