My X5 4.8 is

Alryte guys,

June this year i traded my 04 3.0 petrol for a 4.8is with 80 000km on the clock. All i heard at the time was " YOU'RE NUTZ !!! I figured i'd go ahead anywayz.

Well, go figure ...i recently did two of the most awesome road trips one could ever do....Cape Town to Namibia ( The entire eastern seaboard of South Africa ) and Cape Town To Mozambique ( The entire Westeern sea board of South Africa)....all iin a matter of three months :D.

Suffice to say, 9000 km later and my puppy did not miss a beat. She held up quite nicely in some of the roughest terrain africa can offer and i was suitably impressed with the Hill desecnt control feature.

I dont think the Michelin diamiris are best suited to this vehicle though, well not if your're into bundu bashing at least. ( thats Safrican for serious off-roading)

And to all those sorry ol sods that regard the x5 as an urban warrior and uselss off-road.....go and learn how to drive. !!!!:stickpoke

Im a happy man.

Glad to see you enjoying the beast of a vehicle for what it is!

And as much as I love the on road handling of the 20" michelins, in your neck of the woods I'd likely go down to 18" or 19" wheels with all terrains since you'd spend more time on unpaved roads than the most of us will see... But you're right, the X5 can be capable off road with a good driver. (I once had to pull my friends S10 pickup out of a field with my old E36 325is, but not before doing donuts around him to rub it in)

Must've been a beautiful coastal drive...any pics? I've done similar drives on the Gold Coast visiting the Elmina & Cape Coast castles. The road had been re-paved so it was a smooth ride...definitely a great experience but even better if done in a dependable and fun auto

I happen to work in the tourism industry and we're gearing up quite nicely for the WC. Recently had the draw in Cape Town and there were street parties everywhere.

We're really gearing up with security , so all will be fine

my 2nd x5 now and my missus is insisting i buy a range rover sport ......i keep asking the question.....why:bustingup
