Hi,Eddie,
See below one of my earlier posts.

"Unlike the X5 petrol models, the 3.0 Diesel airbox is built-in on the right side of the engine (opposite side of the Inlet Manifold) and is hidden by the engine cover and inside it you will find the +/- 15" long cone shaped air-filter....... Which is an absolute nightmare to replace!!!!!!"

any instructions on how to do it? tnx..

thanks!!! so how will i really change it? i'm about to purchase the k&n drop in panel filtr on my diesel...

another question, i'm about to change my battery on my diesel... the dealer said that i should be getting the oem battery because it is different from other brands... is it true? i found different brands with the same specs (size, rating, etc) as the oem batt... but bmw still told me that thier oem batt is different... :dunno:

thanks thanks!!!

It is different, it costs a LOT more..

There`s a thread going on at the moment about batteries, have a quick look.

Eddie,as you probably read here, the oil in the K&N filter can damaged your MAF (your air temperature sensor ).If you are fitting a K&N at least ensure that you remove the majority of the oil by tapping the filter onto a cloth.
If you are going to remove your air-filter yourself ,you first have to remove the plastic air scoops at the front, remove the valve cover, remove the alen screws on the air-filter cover.Note that you have 2 screws that are very difficult to access !!These are further back of the engine, one on the left and the other towards the back of your air-filter cover! You need an L-shaped alen key and LOTS OF PATIENCE!!!!Perhaps you should let your dealer do it?

I dont know who supplies BMW their batteries but you dont have to get an oem battery!Your battery is 12V 90AH 720A,so any good brand with these specs will fit your X5.

thanks for your help!!! about the battery, i can't find a battery with the same rating here in our place.. the closest would be 12v 85ah 150rc (the oem ones is 160rc) it has the same size and the position of the terminals... would that work? or not?
