May have been ripped off with my snows?!

I was hoping to set my mind at ease. Three days ago I went and installed new Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snows for my '06 4.4. I'm usually not too picky about where I buy tires and shop purely on price. These guys were the least expensive. I thought everything was OK until I brought my x5 to the dealer today for some routine maintenance and took a look at the Scorpions in the Parts dept. The tread was deeper than mine and more squared off at the edges where it meets the sidewall. Mine definitely aren't as deep and more curved at the edge (again where the bottom meets the sidewall).

The Parts guy said there are different Scorpions in that size (one for Benz, one for Cayenne...etc). This may be true however after visiting the Pirelli website all those models including BMW have the same depth of 14/32.
Perhaps I already have my answer but I'm hoping this guy didn't sell me used tires!! Any advice would be appreciated.

It's easy answer....why don't you just measure the tread depth of your Pirellis ?

I will definitely have the dealer do that when I pick it up tomorrow. But I'm really trying to gauge whether there really are different Scorpions out there in this size and perhaps tread depth. I don't always trust the websites. What adds to my confusion is I actually watched them being installed and they did peel the yellow Pirelli sticker off the tires. However I didn't have any nipples (or whatever you call them) on the tires.

Some tires don't have pronounced nipples....

Go to Pirelli, pull up spec sheet on your tire size and it WILL tell you what the depth is brand new..

so much for the buying from the place with the lowest price...
you better check the date code too, to make sure they aren't super old.

like my step father-in-law always says "I ain't rich enough to buy the cheap stuff..."

do yourself a favour. find a Kal Tire in your area and only go there. shop no where else, even if it is cheaper. their service, when you need it pays for itself.

Funny thing is, they weren't a huge amount lower in price. So much that one would be suspicious...like the old adage. They were $30 lower per tire. I actually did call the Kal Tire in my area and they were great, but didn't carry the Pirelli's in this size. Suggested the Nokian, which I hear are also good.

Most new tires have stripes and/or rubber flash on the tires for production sorting and mold relief. If your tires didn't have either of these things (or if they were faint), they were most likely used.

true, KT doesn't sell all brands, but they do sell Michelin and their brother and sister tires..

as mentioned before, check the date code too. It would at least tell you if its an older tire.

btw, I have the same tires on my 4.4 for the winter and they are amazing in the snow.

Also here is a link to a pic from tirerack. They seem to be rounded at the edges as you explained.

Where did you buy them from? I bought a set last year from TireRack and I think they had 10/32
