Homemade AB03 adapter for Peake code readers
1 Attachment(s)
I just wanted to post a wiring pinout and ebay link so others can make the same harness I will once the harness arrives. I've had my Peake ABS/DSC and CEL readers for quite a while, but my 01 X5 didn't have the same round port needed to use it.
Link for OBDII harness under the dash - OBD OBD2 OBDII EOBD 16 Pin Male Connector DLC Plug Diag:eBay Motors (item 260453546303 end time Dec-23-09 05:40:44 PST) Now I just need to find an ebay link for the female OBDII round port to connect to the Peake handheld reader. Ebay has plenty of male round that'll convert to OBDII female, but that won't help me be able to use my Peake reader in the X5. Below is the pic of the pinout from a real AB03 adapter. |
$8.49, 4 blue butt connectors (acting as the female connectors to the male pins of the reader itself), about 3ft total of speaker wire (4 connections), about 5 minutes of soldering time and I can finally read the SES and SRS codes on any 01-03 BMW's. After getting my two readers for free, I just couldn't justify spending almost $100 for an AB03 adapter for such a limited range of years that I could use it on.

Which model Peake scanners do you have?
|
FCXII and R5/SRS.
|
I have the FCX II too, but I thought it read codes only 1987 until 2000. Not sure what the difference is with the FCX3 other than supposed longer model year support.
|
From my understanding in the FCXII manuals, it will read up to 03, but you need the adapter since it appears the round plug under the hood started getting phased out around 2000 and on. I brought my readers w/ me when I went to purchase the 01 X5, just to find out I couldn't use either of them :( But now I can, and did this evening :)
