Chicago Winter and my X5, tips and advices
 

Hello every body,

After reading and reading through this helpful forum I was able to winterize my car and get use on winter X' reactions , I would like to summerize what I did

A) Exterior: Paint wax and car wash as possible.

B) Locks and doors:
Spray WD-40 from the slide blind cap and white grease.
Spray silicon spray over door rubber and side windows glass edges.

C) Change the upper hose (old) and new antifreeze.

D) Fresh oil change (Dealer charge 95 USD) on December.

E) Full leakage checkup, result radiator lower sensor replacement.

F) Brand new all season tires (Goodyear 285,45, 20")

Also have the following :

A) rough start in really cold weather 0 F , for 2 seconds.
B) Sometimes, whistling sound from the belts, not really bothered from it.
C) Long warm up times, " I warm it up what ever people says, I feel better and hear less sounds"

Slide blind cap? Door rubber and side window glass edges? Can you show me where these spots are,And would that keep the door handles from freezing?

1 ) Glass edge, open the window a little bit and wipe the edge with silicon spary so it won't stick.

2) Door rubber , spray or wipe it with a cloth has silicon spray on it , sometimes I use WD-40 after car wash it replace moisture.

3) White grease on the space between the handle parts, a little bit to avoid missing up when you open the door.

4) Blind black cap, when you open the door there is a cap on the side of the door , remove it and with spray (WD-40) that has a strow spray inside , hopefully will reach the problematic cable that freezes all the time.

Thanks Husam,I jumped right out there and got right on it with the white grease....:thumbup:

The most important thing is spraying the door lock and handle with WD-40 from two locations:

A) Space between the handle and door.
B) Side blind plug (again you will find it on the side of the door)

Usually I do that frequently, the whole idea that spraying WD-40 will replace the moisture inside the carrier and especially the cable.

After doing that you will place the grease as shell to decrease the water that goes in.

I hope that will help , with me it reduced the frozen handle chances by 99%.

Got it,cause it's freezing here in NY,and the driver door handle froze on me this winter,and i had to go in throw passinger side,i had to use a small screw driver to open does blind black caps but i got in there.....that should help alot.

The same story here also, yesterday the temp falled down to 1 F, and -15 wind shill, and thanks god the door opened this morning without any problems
