Not that I expect to have ever been missed, but after a few years of being X'less, I have returned to participate in what I remember as a great community. A few years ago, I had an '01 X5 and found this forum to be priceless. Sadly I sold my X 2 years ago get my E92 M3 (not a total loss) and as of last weekend we replaced my wife's 335i going off lease with a '05 4.4 in Estoril Blue. Many thanks to everyone here as part of the reason we felt comfortable purchasing a pre-loved X and now look forward to another few years of SAV heaven.
I've included pics for your viewing pleasure, but sadly the day after I purchased the vehicle, I ran into a slight problem with which I was hoping someone might help. The Question We had our front windows tinted yesterday and as it was relatively cold here in Orlando, the tint installer left the vehicle running with the heat on max for at least 45 min to help start the drying process. I had filled up the vehicle earlier that day and was surprised when I got in to find the low fuel light on. With on apparent puddles below, I hopped in to head for the nearest station. The range showed 0 miles and oddly, the inidcated outside temperature fell until reaching -1 degrees. Of course it was no where near that temp and pumping more gas showed that I had only consumed 2 gallons or so. I assumed the problem to be electro-computer (technically speaking) related caused by the prolonged high temp in the vehicle (a heat gun was also used) and shut the heat off. As I drove around for the next 30 min, the temp slowly returned to normal and the fuel indicator is doing the same. The strange thing is, the range and fuel gauge rose as I drove. I thought an overnight stint in the garage might return things to normalcy, but today it was the same thing (only starting at 1/4 tank today). Mac Unfortunately the vehicle is NOT a CPO so I am hoping someone here might help. Everything else aside from the fuel gauge and range indicator appear to be working normally (though when I first noticed the problem, the trip odometer, range, consumption, etc. had all reset to 0). I drove the vehicle for another 30 min or so today with the same effect, a slow increase of indicated fuel and range even though I know the tank is nearly full. Please help if you can, even with this minor glitch, I'm glad to have an X back in the garage and to be back on this forum. |
I have found the best way to exercise electrical gremlins is, when in doubt pull the plug or hit the power button :)
Yes I know not very scientific. A good hard reset can never hurt, try unhooking the battery overnight to reset the computer. |
Welcome Back!

How long have you had it for? I'm guessing under 30 days with your temp plates. I would try and take it to the dealer (if it's a BMW dealer) who sold you the car and see what they will do for you. Sounds like you have a relationship with them with other purchases.

Thanks, Dirtdevil's suggestion worked! When all else fails, reboot I guess... 5 days since and the gremlin has not returned.
