smoke after oil separator change...

Just done with the oil separator. I'm planning on changing the oil and valve cover gasket. How long before the smoke is gone ? the smoke is only coming from the tailpipe.

Update: less smoke now. can't get the valve cover off!!!

I have a 3.0 2003 X5 and it took about 25-50 miles (I just took the car for a long drive on the highway) to clear out the oil in the cat and muffler. before going on the drive i had let the car sit at idle for about 30 minutes to try and get most of it out. I know folks say don't let it sit at idle but I would have fogged the highway out if I hadn't.

hope it helps

Thank you for your info. I will take the X out today to the highway. I have also changed the valve cover gasket too. there was some foam stuff which I have cleaned and then dried off before I put it back. Hope that's it. I have to remember to run the X for more then 30 minutes once a week. :P
