Usually around 400 miles for me before I need gas again. Mostly highway driving...

Best 450's and worst I don't know...but it must have been a fun week ;)

DONONE69 01-25-2010 12:29 PM

thanks for the link quicksilver

DONONE69 01-25-2010 12:32 PM

danyell 400 miles is pretty good! what enigine do you have?

ncsucarjock 01-25-2010 09:56 PM

In town, with the 4.4i, driving aggressively, I get to about 300 miles on a tank, sometimes more, sometimes less. On the highway at 80mph, I get about 400 miles on the nose, and 19mpg. Towing 6000# behind me, I get about 12mpg at 75mph or so.

In town mileage with trailer has dropped to 10mpg before with lots of starts and stops, but generally I get 14-15mpg in town, and 19 on the highway. Been consistent that way for 36k miles now... :-)

1stE53 01-26-2010 12:45 AM

I have a 3.0i that I just purchased three weeks ago. I was getting about 14 / 21. I used fuel injector cleaner in ONE tank and have used shell premium since I got it. Drove back from NE, 330 miles and average 23.5mpg going 80mph. about 2 over what epa states.

Hit Redline 01-26-2010 01:06 AM

I am getting 12.6 miles to the gallon.

02 4.6, I think the Dinan mods I have suck a lot more gas. I know it does when I am driving spirited, but driving it gingerly seems to make no difference in the mileage. Mostly city driving.

JoshGM 01-26-2010 10:08 AM

256 miles on my Tank, highway.

JoshGM 01-26-2010 10:17 AM

Guys who get 400miles per tank are pretty lucky, I can be bloody rough even where it is not necessary, but one thing I know my power plant really guzzles juice. But I also get almost the same story with the RX300 Lexus, the only odd one out is my pretty little girl - the 318iM Its fast but not a drunkard!

Rockmelon 01-26-2010 10:46 AM

sorry folks. over here where petrol is cheaper than water and costs only 20 cents a litre, no one monitors consumption.

Wow... If in the U.S. it was 20 cents a gallon, we wouldnt monitor it either...

youry 01-26-2010 11:53 AM

400 miles and sometimes close to 450 if I stay on cruise on the Highway. In town (and only city driving) 300-320 miles. 3.0L engine, 2001, 97k miles

X5Sport 01-27-2010 11:17 AM

.............and for us Diesel powered folks, about 600miles/950km to a tank. The manual shift version is supposed to be even better, but they're a rare beast.

20 cents a gallon - oh how I wish!! A full tank in the UK costs £106 ($170USD).

sunny4bmw 01-27-2010 11:17 AM

MPG 16.9

I bought 3.0 l CPO couple of months back and it is giving avg 16.9 MPG.I drive around 30 miles to work(90% Highway).I use shell gas premium all the time.
Is there a way to increase the fuel econmy to around 20MPG on Highway driving?

StanF18 01-27-2010 11:57 AM

Getting 16 mpg in daily driving on a 2006 4.4i with lots of Dinan mods. A "full to the rim" tank will give me 340 miles (assuming going down to 0 on the BC computer counter). I never understood how some folks can squeeze over 18 mpg on their V-8s.:dunno: Granted my exhaust and CAI do eat up a bit more gas, but not much.

javierh8 01-27-2010 12:20 PM

the dashboard computer says 17.8 miles per gallon on mine. 4.4 v8 with staggered 20"

mrbmwx5 01-27-2010 12:31 PM

The latest BMW technology, Front wheel drive! Combining the latest technology with reduced production costs and lower fuel consumption.

sunny4bmw 01-27-2010 12:32 PM

Mine is 3.0l still 16 MPG

I see here in this forum that the X5 's with 4.4 or 4.8 l is giving more MPG than my 3.0l.
Is there something wrong in my truck.I drive very easy on gas and 90% of my daily driving is highway.

Your help will be greatly appreciated...

mrbmwx5 01-27-2010 12:38 PM

Not thing wrong with your X5.
You're hauling 5000 pounds on the little 3.0i

I'm getting 16.5 in the city and 23.5 on hwy (80mph). I also have a 3.0. Here are a few things to check: tire presure and tread. I check my tires at least once a week. Here in MO our weather is changing almost daily. It went from 40deg to 20 in a day. My tires were 4lbs under! The other thing, I used one bottle of injector cleaner and only use prem shell fuel.

Then wax the hell out of it so it cuts though the wind:nanana:

sunny4bmw 01-27-2010 02:02 PM

Thanks

Thanks for the updates.I check the tire pressure once in 15 days and use shell Oil.I will fuel injector additive this time and check MPG.

Is there brand of fuel injector should I use?

Really no need for additive if you're using Shell V-Power. But if you decide to use an additive, go with Chevron Techron brand once every 3,000 miles or so. I doubt it will improve your mileage, it's mainly for keeping your injectors and fuel system clean.

The only thing I can think of is to be easy on the gas pedal and drive 50 mph. Neither of which I do...... The question you pose has many factors which will affect mpg's. Where you drive, altitude, the type of terrain, if your car is tuned properly, tire pressure, the amount of traffic, personal driving habits and ENGINE SIZE will greatly affect the mpg's. Believe it or not, the time of the year can also affect mileage. By this I mean temperature and gas mixture. Gas formulations change for the winter and usually is better for winter weather performance but mpg's suffer. I can get 400+ miles on the freeway but in the city, it will drop dramatically.

I used the Chevron injector cleaner. Once. I probably won't use it again for another year or more. Every 3000 is a little much, especially when using quality premium fuel.

As far as my mileage, I got 22.2 from Columbia, MO to Lincoln, NE. 78 mph on the way up till about the last 45 miles where I traveled 68 mph. The way back was about the same except for 80 mph and a few runs to 95 for a few minutes. But the way back I got the 23.5mpg. Car is a 2003 X5 with 65K on it. Micheline mxv4plus. Tires were at 32 front and 38 rear (we had suitcases, dog, and child.) I'm guessing that is what they ask for when loaded. 32 and 32 when not loaded.

Siege87 01-27-2010 07:32 PM

I went from Bethlehem, PA to DC and back last fall-- average speed with some traffic in the city was about 62mph. I did the whole trip (444 miles, it read) on almost exactly one tank of gas (came into the gas station I filled up at when I left with the gas light on for the last 15 miles). On normal Hwy driving I usually see about 20, city is 4-7 less.

beamah332is 01-27-2010 09:05 PM

Wow! Some people here are stating to get better mileage than the 3-series. My X5 4.4 gets ~14 mpg/city.

jmsspratlin 01-28-2010 11:15 AM

Seems like around 5mpg for me, everytime I pass a gas station I have to stop to get gas.

sunny4bmw 01-28-2010 11:31 AM

Filled Gas today...

I filled the tank with Shell Vpower. The display started with 390 miles and reached 435 miles after 30 miles of highway driving.I used a gas treatment oil (the ones which will be sold at Advance Auto Parts) before this fillup.

Also,in my 3 months of ownership, you can never believe the display computer for calculating 'Miles on the Full tank'.It changes so dynamically. In my previous fillup,I got 370 miles for the full tank.I drive 30 miles to work one way .

Are there any items which will improve MPG ?

Eggshell touch on the gas pedal, no extra junk, (weight), in
the trunk, keep it below 70, or 60, avoid stop and go, etc.
All basic stuff; there is no gizmo or add-on gadget to get
more mpg out of a 2 1/2 ton brick, imo.
GL,mD

marcjac 01-29-2010 07:20 AM

I have to say I've been really pleased with the mpg on my 4.8is. I keep the fuel consumption showing on my display, and I'm averaging 16+mpg with a combo of highway and back road driving. I tend to fill up when I get near 1/4 tank, after I've driven around 320 miles. That also confirms (20 gallonsX16mpg=320 miles) my gauge is accurate. Considering the HP and performance, the mpg is a bonus! One of the things I do to help conserve gas is to coast to traffic lights and stop signs if possible, instead of keeping on the gas and applying the brake hard. Of course it's not always possible to do this if you've got traffic on your butt:-)

fmugur 01-29-2010 12:27 PM

I get about 320 miles per tank on 75% city driving with 4.4L.

MosH 01-29-2010 07:14 PM

I just came back from Lack Placid the weekend before last and finally refilled the X, I topped it off before I left there and reset the trip meter. Today I had 405miles on the trip meter and it took 21.4 gallons to top off again.

18.9mpg! with the Thule roof rack, 2 snowboards and a trunk filled with luggage. On the way up I averaged 17.5mpg I believe. Much more uphill driving.

AZX54.4 01-29-2010 10:10 PM

in my 2005 4.4i I am getting aprox. 19 mpg. This is city and freeway commuting combined. On the freeway I am cruising around 70 mph. I have the staggered 19's with michelin diamaris' set at 38 psi all around. I use Chevron 91 octane fuel. I drive pretty conservatively during the commute but get on just about everyday a little to hear that great engine :). And one other thing, the car is always clean so it reduces friction. haha

DONONE69 01-30-2010 08:06 AM

could actually do with more info on how many miles you get out of a full tank people and not mpg figures as they are never usually correct !:D

1stE53 01-30-2010 05:44 PM

I just got back from St. Louis from Columbia. 240 mile round trip. It was real windy and I still averaged 20+ mpg with an average speed of 72, which included downdown driving. I am easy on the accelarator. Kind of a waste to have such an amazing car and treat it so softly. I will get on it with this next tank and see what I get. FYI- I fill my tank when it gets to 3/4 and always use a calculator to determine mileage. Manual calculation is between .1 and .3 off the computer. Close enough for who its for

Ha ha ha you really made me laugh... a clean car gets less dynamic friction!..ha.. But I dont know maybe being in Africa I find my Black 4.6 "susceptable" to dust and stuck bugs! I basically have my car go for a wash almost every 2 days, and am serious!:(, If its a long distance trip it worse, with that speed (you know!:dunno:) bugs can be all over you might mistake my car for a millitary SUV!...
