Intermittent wiper settings explaination please

Ok, it's raining and we all know it. My question is about the rain sensing intermittent settings. We all know the one swipe, slow and fast settings, but the roller adjustment setting for intermittent wiping confuses me. Each setting doesn't seem to make any difference in the interval of the wipe. :dunno: Can anyone explain this to me please?

What does your manual say? I believe the subject
is covered on page 71 of the 2005 manual.

The rain sensor automatically controls the wiper operation as a function of the rain intensity. It is positioned on the windshield, directly in front of the inte- rior rearview mirror.
To activate the rain sensor: Move the lever to position 1 as of igni- tion key position 1. The wipers travel once across the windshield, regardless of the weather conditions.
You can leave the lever permanently in position 1. It is then only necessary to activate the rain sensor as of ignition key position 1.
To do this, turn serrated dial 7 briefly

It states the roller controls the speed of the wiper. I've tried the settings and it doesn't seem to affect the speed. And thanks for the sarcastic remark. German manuals are notorious for lame explanations. I'm just trying to get clarification.

I was playing with my wipers last week as well! That selector didn't do a darn thing????? I was a little confused as well. I just ignored it. Now I'm curious again

i dun think he was being sarcastic but i could be wrong, but the speed is kinda un noticeable. i have selected 7 and 1 and if you pay close attention there is a slight difference but not that much.

Thanks. He ammended his reply. Originally the post was one sentence. Maybe I took it wrong. Maybe the change is so subtle it's not very noticible.

Nothing sarcastic about checking the manual.
It's the first line of reference. I still use it first
then I search the site for additional info.

In this case my manual was in the car so
I just searched for the information right here
on the site. It explains the operation of the
controls and what to expect.

So you automatically ASSUMED I didn't look at the manual? I did indeed check the manual. People on car forums are too quick in assuming the OP doesn't check the manual or do a search. I'm inquiring about the the wiping interval. The manual makes almost no reference to the differences in the settings. So instead of multiple posts slamming me for NOT reading the manual, wouldn't it be easier to answer my question? Maybe you would like to help answer my question.....?

When you roll upwards, the wipers are more sensitive. When you roll downwards, they are less sensitive. It doesn't make too much of a difference, but it's there. I personally keep it rolled all the way upwards. Hope that helps!

Sorry of you took offense but I
understood what you we're asking
that's exactly why I quoted the manual
and the page number.

It explains all the controls and say's
that the serrated dial adjust the sensitivity
of the rain sensor when the lever is
in position 1.

The only way you will notice any difference
is if it is raining, and how hard it is raining.
There are a number of positions that can be
used with the serrated dial and one must try
each position with the serrated dial while it's
raining to notice the difference.

The sensitivity and the interval of the wipe is
determined by how much rain is seen by the
sensor. It isn't something you or I can determine
or measure. The rain sensor does it electronically.
