Changing titanium side mirror rings?
 

HI,
I just got titanium side mirror rings. Plz advise DIY without scratching/breaking things.....hopely detailed info with some pics plz...

also DIY on bumper step protection thing plz.

i've installed a titanium rear liftgate handle...but it looks no different than my stock silver one. this is the part # on the box (51-13-7-170-674). i'm thinking they sent me a stock one, not titanium.

according to PACIFICBMW.COM, this is the part # for titanium liftgate handle.

This comes with very simple detailed instructions. Essentially, you wet the bumper protector in a bowl of water, and slide it into place. Squeegee, and the adhesive gets sticky in an hour or so. Couldn't be simpler.

sounds very simple. you know, it also comes with 3m thing and some kind of yellow liquid. what are these for? i would think the 3m thing is used to clean the surface and to prep it.

The yellow liquid is soap, to put in the water and make the plastic slide around. The 3M thing functions as a squeegee.

Trust me, it is all too easy to do.

For the side mirrors, you want to remove the mirror cover (the body-color painted part of the mirror) off the mirror housing, then simply remove the black ring around the mirror glass. To remove the cover, position your right (or left) thumb on the bottom of the mirror cover and push it downward and out toward the back of the mirror (or front of vehicle). Don't use too much force or the latches will break. Once you get if off the housing, lift the cover out of the housing then remove the ring. The ring is very, very easy to remove. Bend the latches and remove it.

Install the new ring and reverse the process to reinstall the cover. Make sure the latches inside the cover fit properly into the grooves.

With your detailed instructions, I did it tonight. I was kind of hesitant at first cuz I didn't want to break things, but things went smoothly. I also replaced the front grille with titanium grille. They look pretty cool. Slowly but surely, this X5 is becoming mine. I'll get some pics this wknd. Thanks y'all.

Hey Windycityx5. Can you post the instructions on how to install the rear step because i bought the product 4 years ago and never gotten around to install it. I lost the soap, so can i use dishwashing liquid or is this the special kind of soap i need. Lost the squegee as well. I might take a couple of credit cards to use. Thanks

Guys, I am telling you, it is really easy!! Yes, put just a little squirt of dishwashing soap into the bowl of water. That makes the water a little more slippery. Make sure the bumper is very clean. Put some of the soap/water on the bumper, dunk the step protector in the water, and then lay out on the bumper. Keep it wet, so it can slide around into position. Smooth it out, getting any bubbles out. Once you are happy with the position, leave it alone for a while. The glue should adhere in a few hours.

But don't i take the plastic off the step protector and then dump it in the water? or dump the protector in the water and then take the plastic off to position it on the bumper

Just like on any kind of sticker, the adhesive is covered with a thin plastic film to keep it from rubbing off or sticking to something inadvertantly. Yes, take the plastic off the back of the step protector before dunking the black step protector into the water.
