A good friend of mine started selling parts for old 2002s and now has a nice little business going selling BMW and Porsche parts. Great guy and very competitive pricing.

Parts: Blunttech.com - OE and Aftermarket Parts For Your New or Vintage BMW

And it helps if you know the part #'s you need, you can browse BMW's parts system here: RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog
*the pricing on realoem is dealer list and usually quite a bit higher than his prices.

alternatorpros.com I picked one up for my mini and it was over half the price of BMW for the same alternator. And they overnight it fedex free.

princemoe2m 01-31-2010 01:28 PM

thanx guys, ya i checked alternatorpros.com and its $420 with shipping :S

msammy 01-31-2010 02:20 PM

I'm not sure you'll be able to find it for less than the $390 you were quoted. I just checked with Autozone - they usually have very good pricing, but their price is $454.99 plus $150 core for $604.99 and that's a remanufactured alternator. Keep shopping and good luck - it's not going to be cheap! Let us know how things work out for you.

ya i checked with auto zone too and thats the exact price they gave me...
some memeber here on Xpost got his for $171.45 and thats a very good deal but that site is closed :( thanks for ur feed back buddy hopefully some member here comes across this post and share there info/deal :S

Ahh you have the 4.4
Mine is less than 200 for the 3.0

I always buy my parts here

princemoe2m 01-31-2010 06:50 PM

u lucky have the 3.0
i have the 4.4 and it listed for $153.85 core +$392.64 alternator :(

I don't understand why you drove 15 minutes w/ the battery light on. If the belt or something broke, god only knows what could have been happening under the hood. You should have stopped immediately.

I read a thread lastnight of a guy who bought a rebuild kit for under $200, you should search around more.

princemoe2m 02-01-2010 02:47 AM

well like i said i was at my friends shop getting the brakes & calipers checked and on my way back home i thought the andy left a door or something on & drained the battery since the light came on while i goin home, so i was like it well recharge itself :S
it didnt come across my mind that the alternator well go bad right after the calipers did :( when 1 thing goes bad & another thing fallow... luv the X.

I feel your pain buddy. Usually when something goes on my X, it happens in twos like yours did. Already been through the brakes and replaced the alternator, ac compressor clutch, 3 window actuators, two axle shafts bco front cv boots and still have a misfire that I've been trying to track down for several thousand miles with no luck. I just recently broke the 60K barrier, wtf.

I did notice that price difference when pricing my altenator replacement between the I-6 and V-8 models and thought holy cow that's high. One of the few times I was glad I had the bottom line motor. Good luck with you situation, hope it doesn't run you too much.
