Found my 4.8is!
Deposit has been sent, flying to Florida this week to pick her up :wow: Can't believe it's happening!!
I am literally shaking right now, I have been looking for so long and finally found the right one: spotless, one owner off-lease 06 4.8iS with 32k on the clock and the factory warranty through Dec 27 of 2010, at a really good price too! It is on it's way to the dealer today to get prepped for an epic journey home! http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/dealerpics/p53.jpg http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/dealerpics/p56.jpg http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/dealerpics/p59.jpg http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/dealerpics/p45.jpg http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/dealerpics/p37.jpg http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/dealerpics/p26.jpg |
Beautiful Congratulations, It looks like the one I just got!?, though mine had 59,375 miles! but spotless like yours, pictures coming...
Its been two weeks since I got mine, I love it... |
Congrats! Looks almost like mine. Differences are that I have the "white" leather interior and ordered and installed a full set of cross-drilled rotors on mine with Red Stuff pads.
Up until last week, I had a re-occuring problem with the full air suspension on her. Seems I had a right front strut go out. After that, she would never be at the same height at any time. The "trick" to fix it is that you need to change out the struts in pairs; not one at a time. Again, good luck! |
Sweet - congrats.
|
Yea not too many options color wise - I really wanted the silver alcantara interior which of course wasn't available in '06, I kinda just gave up on that. I think I'll enjoy the black nappa and it is more durable which will be nice. The white leather looks great but would make me very nervous! So does the air suspension system, I think BMW designed it that way so they could sell more aftermarket warranties haha
Can't wait, still shaking! |
very nice!!! congrats!!!
|
very nice, i think ally running boards will finish it off nice

Congrats, enjoy the drive back.
|
where did you find her? ebay? she's a beauty! congrats!
|
very very nice. JW, is it still possible to extend that dealer warranty into CPO for 100k miles and 6 years, or is it too late?
|
nice... congrats...lookin good

nice. Wow - Ebay huh? interesting...
congrats and enjoy the drive back. I drove mine to CA from KY. Well - sort of. A buddy took it from KY to CO and I drove it from CO to CA. What a road trip. The 90K mile 4.6is performed flawlessly. I assume you are having or already had a PPI done at a local dealer in FL? That's what I did and it all checked out. I guess with 32K miles you have a lot less to worry about than I did, but still better safe than sorry. I almost bought a E36 M3 back when they were nearly new cars and it had under 40K miles on it and had been in a nasty wreck. I had the check in hand for the car and everything in the guys name. I ran as fast as I could out of the shop as soon as I settled up the payment for the PPI that saved my ass.. bring a camera - we want pics and a report when you get home now!! |
Yea it was crazy to hit "Buy it Now" on a $35k vehicle and all of a sudden popping up "Congratulations on your purchase of the 2006 BMW X5" - almost surreal.
Tomorrow they are taking it to the BMW dealer for a full check up and to get any warranty related issues taken care of for my trip home. I think I am going to have them install a clearbra as well to avoid any damage. She assured me that they avoid cars with any sort of issues, more hassle than it is worth with out of state clients, and that makes sense and would be the way I would run a dealership like this. Things like their guy using an electronic paint thickness gauge and all sorts of other checks to make sure the cars are legit. Even so a freshened up bumper or something isn't the end of the world as long as the car itself is solid. Pics are a huge deal to me so there will be plenty! |
I just got off the phone with the owner of the dealership I bought it from - turns out they listed it wrong.
Instead of just the factory warranty it has the CPO warranty as well! Confirmed with the issuing BMW dealership! I think I may be the luckiest man alive right now, time to buy a lotto ticket! |

ya - sometimes that happens with an auction vehicle. A buddy of mine purchased a 2004 760iL from a dealer and later found out it had a CPO attached to it. He had no idea - the BMW dealer found out for him. I traded in a 2000 M5 for a 2004 Z06 Corvette one time and the M5 was still under CPO. The dealer may have sold the car on their lot or may have dumped it off on auction, but I bet either way they had no clue it was a CPO car. Only a BMW dealer or someone who deals in these cars would know to look and use it as an added value to the sale.

wow what a deal you got yourself now. Does it include maintenance till 100k miles? |
Just a quick tip based on my experience: I bought a warm weather (Dallas) X5 this past December and drove it up to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. At about Wyoming, the washer fluid reservoir was frozen up to a slush-like consistency and all the washer lines were plugged. I've since had to replace a busted leaking washer pump and have left several jugs of -40-approved washer fluid to leak on the driveway! :)
I'd recommend either bringing down some cold weather additive or getting a jug of the cold weather stuff ASAP, as Minneapolis will be a lot like Canada at this time of year! Looks like a nice ride, have fun! |
How much are you asking for on the Goat?
|

I'll probably have to wait until St Louis to grab anything cold weather related. PS I think it is actually colder than Canada right now  |

Congrats on the nice find, great stuff. :thumbup

In case of an emergency, just add half a bottle of rubbing alcohol to the windshield washer reservoir and you should be good to go. Learned this from a truck driver, after my rental car had frozen washer fluid in reservoir and all of the pipes, back in Quebec/Canada. Poured the alcohol in there and after a few minutes kept pressing the spray button so the melted fluid could work/melt its way up the frozen pipes and finally through the sprayer onto the windshield. |
Very nice man!!!!!! Around how much did u paid for it?
|
It was $36k
|
Congrats!!! Great looking car :)
|
Very nice! I hope to find one like that soon so I can trade mine in.
|
Nice find! Ebay is becoming to be a very good resource for purchasing cars nowadays. You're more productive by doing more research, and at the comfort of your own home. IMHO
|
Made it home!

Congrats!!! Looks good. What tires are on it? Did they hook up well in the snow driving?
|
It has the Toyo Proxes S/T IIs
They are ok for winter, but certainly not ideal. I think their main downfall is lateral traction ie they slide sideways easily. I will definitely be getting snow tires this coming winter though. |
man this makes me miss mine... i think ill cry now
|
Bathtime. :D

Hopefully today they will open up, but even then the car will get dirty right away on the ride home :( |

Congrats on the X! Kudos to you on the ebay buy. I'm nervous about buying anything used, even from local dealers, where I can actually go see and test drive the car in person...let alone just seeing pictures and descriptions of it on a computer!
|
It was definitely an interesting experience, and this one was a bit misrepresented (paint condition, needs warranty work) but otherwise it was a great experience.
Couple of new pics: http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/nd1.jpg http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/nd2.jpg These are the sort of angles they avoid when taking pics for eBay - should be a fun full day of detailing come spring... http://www.nom3rcy.com/X5/nd-pc.jpg |
NICE!!!! Congratulations:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I see you changed your headlights already ... looks sweet! Good luck and cya around the board. ;) |
Thanks for the welcome! I haven't changed my headlights, I think the bright sun may make them look 'clear'
Yea it is frustrating to clearly ask about any blemishes or scratches inside and out and have them reply 'it's perfect' only to show up to this - last I checked 'perfect' does not include swirled paint, faded trim, 2 door dings, gunked up headlight glass, repaired leather, and curbed wheels... I can take care of all that stuff as it is relatively minor, and on a 35k mile SUV should probably be expected, but still, just be upfront about it and keep your customers happy ya know? Maybe I am being picky though as the rest of the car is really perfect. |

|
Yea I think if it was any worse I would have refused the car.
It was definitely frustrating, but overall I am still happy with the purchase. On a side note - I had a couple of questions about your X. First, where did you get those wheels? I found some reps on ebay that looked just like those, I think they are originally M5 wheels? Second, when you recalibrated the suspension to the lower ride height, have you ever had any issues with it bottoming out or rubbing? Third, did you buy a running board 'kit' that included the front fender flares? If so part number for the kit? I am looking to go that route soon :) Thanks much! |

This thread should help but I went ahead and pasted the info. you need below too: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e53-forum/58739-running-boards-flares-explained.html 4.6/4.8 – Aluminum Running Boards WITH Front and Rear Flares. NOTE 1: Must buy the RB Retrofit Kit (51710017315) and the additional parts below which will REPLACE all your wheel arches. NOTE 2: The Front and Rear Flares are DIFFERENT for vehicles with or without RBs. NOTE 3: If you already have RBs, then you ONLY need the Front Flares below and 14 Blind Rivets (51717002953). NOTE 4: You can choose to save money by re-using your REAR 4.6/4.8 Flares. See this thread: How to re-use rear flares Part Number ------ Description --------------------- QTY 51 71 7 051 035 -- FLARED WHEEL ARCH, REAR LEFT ---- 1 51 71 7 051 036 -- FLARED WHEEL ARCH, REAR RIGHT --- 1 51 71 7 051 037 -- FLARED WHEEL ARCH, FRONT LEFT --- 1 51 71 7 051 038 -- FLARED WHEEL ARCH, FRONT RIGHT -- 1 So, buy RB retrofit kit part 51710017315 (see Note 1 above). The RB kit comes with new wheel arches that will work with the RBs BUT they are not flared! That's why, in addition, you need to buy whatever flares you want (assuming you want to keep the 4.6/4.8 look): Rear Flares = see parts 51717051035 and 51717051036 above. Front Flares = see parts 51717051037 and 51717051038 above. Optional: Note 4 above. You can save money by re-using your existing rear flares instead of buying new ones. Really it's modifying the new rear wheel arches that come with the RB kit to accept your old rear flares. Follow the link if interested. Here's a link for install help: Running Board Retrofit Kit Instructions |
very nice jealous...;-) Need a new one myself.
|
Yea dont worry about the swirls (any used black car is gonna have them, i dont care, but if it has anything over 10,000 miles and its black its gonna have them).
I got a door ding too, I didnt notice it, till after I bought my X. Faded trim pieces I have as well, I went to buy "back to black" at Kragen for trim it works exceptional, it just puts my trim back to black, just like new! wow! Congrats, your car is beautiful! |
Thanks guys - I will definitely use some sort of trim restore - thankfully most of the defects can be repaired with some elbow grease :)

Are you satisified with the quality of those wheels? How about the weight compared to stock? I'm thinking of those for my winter set, seems like they'd do pretty well. I sawa them posted on ebay and a couple other sites so it seems they are still available. |
Quote:
Please share the link to the wheels. Last time I checked none were available, at least the 20x9.5 size. I want to get a spare if not two. :D BTW .. the set of four cost something like $1100-$1200. I hope they went down in price too. |

These would be for winter tires - I'm looking for a non-staggered 20x9.5 so these are definitely in the running.
I am also considering buying another set of 4.8is wheels, and then mix and match for a set of 4 rears with 315s in the summer (a la the Dinan S3) and 4 fronts with 275 snow tires in the winter. |
