Tool for replacing rear ball joint
 

Hi all, I am thinking of replacing my both side ball joint in rear wheel carrier, the part number is 33326767748. Just want to make sure what tool do I need to do it and where can I buy the tool online for shipping to Hong Kong. Is it workable for DIY? Thanks for help!!!

I haven't done the rear wheel carrier, but I've done the front suspension. I used a pickle fork and a front suspension tool kit from Harbor freight to get the pieces apart.

Thanks for your comment. However, the rear ball joint is totally different with the front ball joint, it needs a special tool to pull it out, not a ball joint extractor or folk.

Can someone here give me some hints on this?

I have used this to replace the RTAB's on my E46 and it worked like a charm. Just use the cups on one side and press the ball joint into the receiver cups with the giant C-clamp. Great tool for $40.

I bought the OEM tool from www.baumtools.com

This kit is definitely for E53 (totally different than the E46 tool!) and allows easy replacement of the rear axle carrier ball joint with the carrier in place on the X5. tool part#B334191. (price is USD $300)

The part number of the rear axle wheel carrier ball joint is 33326767748 (costs about USD $65).

Just got it back from my independent mechanic -2.5 hours of labor for the left rear - "worked like a charm". I am sure it is a matter of time until we do the other side but it was well worth the price since the dealer wanted $675 to do just one side and almost $1350 to do both!
