The X is still pretty tail happy, even w/ the AWD system. Maybe it just reacts slowly, but its definately not confidence inspiring. I'd love to have two 4.4 6spd vehicles converted to stick, just for the holy crap factor when I'm @ Bimmerfest 2010 :)

I'd love to have my 4.6is with a 6 speed manual, full range selectable t-case and a big ol supercharger! That would be enough to make me drive cross country to bimmerfest.
(now quietly thinking of which vehicles have full t-cases electrically operated, and wishing I had a full machine shop to be able to make it work) |
With the 6spd trans, wouldn't we lose the transfer case though? Here is out way to make the X an RWD only vehicle. You've got the first line on parts bro ;) Swap in the pedal set from a 3.0, we'd just have to figure out the hydraulics.
Are there specs for the LeMans X5 somewhere...all I can ever find is videos of it driving. |
What about a t-case from a Rover?
Anyone ever thought about doing the t-case from a Range Rover? After all they use the same 4.4l motor and the ZF 5hp24 transmission...assuming you don't have the GM trans. I know the manual would be cool but the auto is okay...as long as the thing doesn't overheat because of a bad temp sensor or clogged cooler lines...:dunno:
I do agree it would be neat to have an actual hi-lo t-case on an X... |
I looked under a rover with the M62 with the same thoughts in my head, the main difference I see is how the driveshafts are mounted... the universal joint is at the case and guibo joint is at the rear diff. I'm not sure, but I wonder if the flanges on the case or rear diff could be swapped... and/or how interchangeable the driveshaft parts are.
But the mechanical part would be the easy part.... the electronic part would be tough to say the least on an <03 and a nightmare on >04 models with x-drive. |
