Auto Headlight Upgrade?
 

I have a 01 X5 and wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to the auto headlight, often found on the 02 model year. Can this be done simply by changing the light switch? Thanks for the info...

no, the light module must be replaced, the rain sensor, and windshield. and a special coding code must be installed to activate the automatic lamps, to recognise the new coded ground signal from the light switch.

Rain sensor - my x5 already has the auto wiper feature
light module - guess this is a diff piece than the light switch itself
special code - guess this is not DYI work (ie, remove battery to have the computer recognize the new light module/switch)

$90 for rain light sensor
$290 for light module
$75 for light switch.

I remember seeing an aftermarket generic kit for this for around $90 that you patched into the existing wiring.
I have it on my Explorer and its not worth much more than $90 to turn the lights on about 2 minutes before I would have done it myself.
I also remember reading a number of members had problems with the OEM system (Surprise, surprise!) blinking on and off and needing a reprogram or the like.
Mk1 switch on the left work fine for me.
