Very nice!! Definitely pro quality work. Did you use a remote flash for the last shot too?

No idea what was actually used - no doubt we'll hear soon enough - but if I was doing this I'd be using the Canon EOS5D MkII (or one of the Nikon pro- DSLR if you have one of those instead) with an F2.8 50mm (or possibly wider/faster) lens (stopped down to F8 or more to get the depth of field), tripod, remote trigger, manual exposure (possibly Bulb setting) and then Photoshopping it. I would also take the image using RAW rather than JPEG because you can do so much more with a RAW image than a JPEG. I use a similar set-up and settings to shoot lightning - albeit in somewhat warmer climates!!

Nice pics. You got a fan from the cities. I'm over on the other side - Woodbury. I haven't tried driving onto water as of yet - keep your eyes peeled on the Star Tribune and see if I make any headlines.

I know right where you were. Nice restaurants not too far away. Great shots of MN winter night sky!

An off camera flash would be ideal for this setup. or even a LED flashlight to highlight the X durring the long exposure.

Thank you very much everyone - it was cold but a lot of fun, I'm glad you guys like them I'll have to take some more!

For this shoot I used my Canon 50D and a Tamron 17-50 lens along with a Manfrotto tripod. I tried some effects with my 430exII but didn't have much luck with it. The best lighting was captured in the last pic when a Jeep was driving past on the ice road - got lucky with that one :thumbup: It would have been nice to have a flashlight of some sort to highlight the car better as this paint seemed to absorb all available light lol

For pp I used Lightroom to import and manage the pics with some light processing, and then Photoshop CS4 for any edits and touchups, with the NoiseNinja plugin to help with the noise reduction. I always shoot in RAW, especially in these low light setups as it does make a huge difference.

looks amazing. if i could make one suggestion for your X5, if you polish up those tail pipes really well, it makes a huge difference!
