FOB KEY ISSUE - Anyone else have this issue with the key?
I have an 01, X5 4.4i and this strange issue i have always had with the key fob that im not sure if its normal for my x or if its not.
Issue: Everytime I unlock the X and relock it, it wont unlock using the key remote feature, id have to manually lock it inserting the key to the door. I had a chance to check out a 2006 X5 and it shockingly didnt have this issue, so i was wondering is it normal for 01s or is it not? Thanks! |
Sound like you having bad door lock/unlock actuator.

I'm not sure what you're saying...the vehicle is locking via the remote, it isn't unlocking via the remote, or both? Have you tried leaving the battery disconnected overnight, then reprogramming the key the following morning? You'd be surprised what "reseting" these cars will fix sometimes.

To put it in simple terms, If i lock the X with the key and unlock it right after it wont let me lock it via remote until the car has been drivin again
|
K, but are you unlocking it w/ the key physically in the hole, or w/ the remote. I'm still not clear. I still say you need to pull the battery cables and let it sit overnight, then see if it changes things in the morning.

Any luck Simon?

Nope, no fix as of now...unfortunately

The keys charge inductively through the ignition, so you guys may just need to replace the rechargeable battery. The older style keys like on my E34 have an actual red LED, so when the range decreases or the light gets dim, I know its time to replace it. Unfortunately the batteries in the newer style keys aren't a simple watch battery, so you'll have to disassemble it and take a look. I'm replying via my phone, but I'm guessing there might be a writeup to fix the key on www.e38.org...might be worth trying, otherwise good ol' Google using different keywords.
