OK so I went on my first long trip with my X5 (e53) here are my problems when I got back. Any help is much appreciated!!!

1) The fuel gauge is not working it is slow to get to 1/2 tank and then stops at a 1/2 tank indicator plus the "fuel range" on my display is counting up instead of down.

2) The front right wheel sound like it is rubbing, I put new tires on my X before I left for the trip, everything was fine on the way out there but on the way back the noise was present. The rubbing noise goes away when I turn the whee slightly to the left or making left turns. I am going back to where I purchased the tires and make sure its not the tires. If anyone thinks the noise is caused by something else please post.

3) I know I have a bad rear hatch switch (the door keeps opening and closing on its own) can someone point me to where I can purchase this assembly I searched on the internet for about 1/2 hour with no luck.

Other than that the car drove great and I eliminated the milky oil under te oil cap Whoo Hooo!!!

Exactly my problem, even now. Last week I even posted a thread about this fuel gauge just which is just stuck, mine the needle is right at the bottom never even go up and light is always on! Got some help here was told the sensor/sender under backseat is not doing its job! You possibly went over a bump to dislodge the cables:dunno:

Yeah check the tire guys, but you might even be surprised its just some object stuck under on the tire.

1) Go to Realoem and find your specific year/model and get the part number.

Example for 2004 4.4:

2) Get it from the dealer, or Google part number, or use www.ecstuning.com.

The noise from the front is my wheel bearings anyone have a DIY on replacing the front wheel bearings on a e53

Wheel bearing job is difficult without the correct BMW tool. I would recommend that you take it to a Indy shop or dealer. The bearings are not expensive its the labor to remove the old bearings.

It doesn't look like there's a special BMW tool, you just need a 2000+lb press and C-clip pliers. Remove carrier, remove clip, press out bearing, press in new bearing.

EDIT: Also, a shop should only charge 1/2hr labor if you take the carrier out yourself. To remove the carrier, you need to remove the wheel, ABS sensor, the bolts holding the carrier, the spindle nut, then pull the spindle out (if you live in the north, this can be rusted in there pretty good).
