Just another example of why they're called "stealerships"

I brought the X5 in for a bad idle, no CEL.
I thought it may have been the intermediate levers.

SA calls me and says it's a malfunctioning MAF sensor, but no CEL.
Says total to repair/replace the MAF sensor is $883 + tax.

I told him to call the extended warranty co. to have it replaced through them. It shouldn't be a problem with the ext. warranty co... let them get ripped off by the stealership. :D

I wonder how the $883 is broken down? $150 for the part, $20 for 10 mins worth of work...and the rest?

$ 150 is for ebay item..:rofl:
dealer MAF is about $400-450, + 1 hour for diagnos and labor + their building is sitting on 3 acres = $$$:D

Dealer buys MAF's from Bosch and marks them up. We can buy MAF's from Bosch from discount online suppliers. I buy nothing from the stealerships unless I have to. Good thing you've got an extended warranty.

Absolutely you should only be going to the dealerships as a final resort, when you have completely exhausted all other options.

Yeah but when you have ext-waranty it's OK to go to dealer.
Actually it's fun to watch them duke it out like "Alien" vs "Predator"

Yep, the only reason why I went to the dealer was because I thought it was the intermediate levers and also I have ext. warranty.

Otherwise, I'd just change it myself and skip all the drama.

...and I suppose they sell fake sensors on ebay?

$250 for OEM Bosch from RM European.

Still far from $400-$450... I think it's more like the 3 acres.

They also gotta pay for the coffee, doughnuts, and bottled water you drank during that hour of labor. And the carwash.:D

how do you know they buy parts directly from BOSCH?

m5james 02-24-2010 08:29 PM

Directly, through a sales guy who supplies you, etc. My point is, the dealership charges more than anyone else for anything, from little nitpicky parts to the larger stuff. What's your point?
