Nankang SP-5??? Anyone heard of these?

I did a search on the forum for Nankang and found only one post that mentioned the name but nothing else about them. From what little I could find out about them, they are priced way lower than any other tires and have a decent treadwear number of 420. They are only H rated but that means nothing to me. Has anyone heard anything about these . . . ride quality, noise levels, defects, etc.? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a back set (285/45/19) right now. They are $148/tire plus $30 shipping/tire. That's cheap!!!

Made in Taiwan, I think...
Dunno: awfully inexpensive.

Would you put that little known & very cheap tire brand on your Suzuki
m'cycle?
I would take a Pasadena personally; not much on the Net about them.

I know . . . I couldn't find anything about them either other than what you saw. I did find some info about the name brand in another style of tire. Apparently they are somewhat popular with the slammed Honda Civic 4 cyl oversized exhaust pipe crowd. Some said loved them and would buy again and some said the opposite but overall about average. The same types of reviews can be found on my Toyo Proxes which I paid better than $225+ for. Just wandering if anything has been heard about the SP-5 specifically.

I understand why you would take the pasadena but I'm remember a time when I once said "Toyo? Never heard of those? But they sure are cheap!" and now they are on my vehicle.

I have them on my X, I don't know if this is the SP5 model though, there is only the "NS All Sport performance" written on them. I'm quite happy with them, cheap, resistant, good handling, well balanced, no problem on my vehicle.

Thanks for your reply! I was hoping somebody heard about them in the X forum but the fact that you have them on an X is even better. I have a few more questions for you if you help me out a little further . . . How long have you had them? How many miles do you currently have on them? How many miles do you expect from them? Would you buy them again?

Thanks again in advance!

Repoman,
I wasn't trying to come across as use "BMW oil"
and spend 400 bucks per tire, lol!

I understand 15 yrs ago there were many brands,
now well regarded, that were barely known.

I don't have a prob with the H rating, the treadwear
# is pretty high, ("hardish", maybe), but there must
be other cheaper alts to $4 bills per tire.

Otoh, if all the car is used for is driving on the flats
of Houston, at freeway speeds, they might be worth a look.

Sorry to nit-pick, but why would you ask him if he would put them on his performance bike? Seems totally irrelevant.

I used them on a Saturn Coupe 5 years ago. I even tracked the car. I had no problems with them. I seem to remember that they were made in China, but I could be wrong. I would put them on any of my cars, but would never put them on a sportbike. :)

You're good with me motorD, I understood your initial post as you intended. It actually made me chuckle a little.

Actually I did some more searching and was mistaken on that H rating, they are actually V rated which is what my toyos are.

And Houston speedway . . . I mean freeway driving is mainly where they will see action. Still considering . . . the 2 posts above this one that said they had and liked the brand make me feel much better. Haven't hit the "Buy it now" button yet but I think I'm about to.

I have them since about 7500 miles. I'm living on an island in the Caribbean where the roads are very curvy and the weather is hot and often wet, no problem of handling on the wet. I'd say that I'd expect no more than 10/11000 miles on rear tyres due to very sinuous roads around here and of course the fact that any X wears the tyres on the inside. Maybe a bit more on the front, 14/15000 miles max.
I would buy them again for at least one reason, the price, considering that I'm living in a country where tyres are very expensive...
I can take a picture if you like so you can see the model.

Thanks a bunch sfcl for the input. And I appreciate the picture offer but don't go through the trouble. I was mainly interested in your opinion of your experience with the brand and what you gave me was more than satisfatory.

And thanks for making me realize how boring my life is by letting me know you live on a Carribean island . . . jk thanks again!
