A\c Compressor coil
 

I bought an A\C compressor coil from ebay to install on my Calsonic csv717 compressor 2003 6.0L X5. I have few questions for the forum. The old coil has a diode in it, does anyone knows the type and part number? If I replaced the diode how can I test if the OEM coil works? :dunno:
If I installed the new coil which does not have a diode, will this be a problem to the system? The original coil has a locator pin on the back to set in place when installing to the compressor, the new coil does not, will this new coil stay put if it engages the clutch when AC it on? And has anyone installed/replace the OEM compressor coil and do you know of any problems? Thanks in advance.

I have done this job on my X. The coil I bought was also from ebay. It did come with a seperate diode that I would have had to put in-line but I did not use it. I have had mine in for about 5K miles now and not problems w/o the diode. The system works exactly as it should.

As far as indexing is concerned, I don't remember aligning the replacement coil with any special tab. Only remember making sure the wire exists up top so that it does not interfere with the spinning pulley. The snap ring will hold the coil very securely. I did have to grind down one spot on the replacement coil where a pin protruded out the front of the coil that would have made contact with the pulley (maybe an alignment pin for a different application).

There is a good write up on here with pics that I followed. The only difference is I had a heck of a time getting to the snap ring so I ended up cracking open the system so I could work with the compressor in hand.

Thanks Repoman, you have answered my questions. I'm good to go ahead with the install. I do have one more question; did you reseted any codes to get the compressor to work?

No codes to reset. I reinstalled my compressor . . . had to add some more compressor oil to it because I spilled some while taking in out. Once I had the system all sealed and vacuumed I introduced the freon into the system. I then cranked up the X and put the AC on max . . . I can't remember if the compressor engaged immediately or if I had to add some more freon to satisfy the low pressure switch but I did have to add more freon obviously and the compressor did engage without me having to do anything special.

One thing you might want to check out while your in there (since your X is as old as mine) is the wire the power wire that feeds the compressor coil. I would check it from the coil connector through that round guide on top of the compressor all the way to the frame. I found that mine was rotting to the point where the insulation was falling off of it. I replaced that wire by splicing into it at the frame rail running my own wire to connect to the coil. Still working like a charm.

I finally completed the installation of new ac coil, however i think the clucth is a bit too tight. The clutch should be a bit loose in able for the pulley to turn freely. What's the correct gap for the clucth and the pulley? Thanks in advance!

I got the correct gap between cltch and pulley, 3 sheets of paper wide. The clutch engaged and it is cold air again. Thanks to all!
