Push Button Start

Has anyone, or is it even possible, successfully added a push button start to their E53 X5? I have an '03 3.0 and did a quick search on my favorite X5 site and for the first time... came up empty handed.

There is just something about starting a car with a button that I love. That and I really hate the way BMW setup the ignition (turning wise). I was just curious if it was possible without tripping some sensor, pissing off some computer, or upsetting the overall balance of nature. Thanks in advance!

Jason

Yes. It's been written up on this board.

I actually like turning the key, push buttons remind me of the old times when you had to push a button to start an engine. Seems like moving backwards, now if they could invent some kind of cool DNA scan that would be nice

I have seen it retrofitted on some cars but not the x. The only hurdle I would see is the fact that the key would need to be left in the car. If there was a retrofit kit that worked on an rfid chip I would buy it though.

First things first, you have to have the automatic starter (not sure of the name) on your car, in other words, do you have to keep pushing the key to start the car, or do you just click all the way and leave the rest to the car to start up? in case you have the automatic starter (the later), then you need to have the NAV and the code option. I remember that it has been said that if you turn the key to on (without continuing to start the car) and then you enter the code, once you press ok the engine will start...

since we're talking about push buttons, try the search button, i'm sure you'll find detailed threads....

it's strictly for looks.I have this push start button in my previous E46.
you still have to put the keys in the ignition before the push button works.
This button is from an Infiniti M45.

I was thinking the same thing the other day and I found New Project Keyless Entry with Push Button Start - Dodge Nitro Forum - Forums and Owners Club! .

Its exactly what you are asking for. I hope the company starts mass producing it. Video of it working on page 2.

Well SHEEEEE-ITTTTTT! I'm sold! In Germany everyone knows that Bayerische Motoren Werke translated to redneck is "Dodge Nitro." And if it's good enough for the cheap plastic dashboard of our mullet wearing brothers' cars then it's good enough for the BMW Individual Champagne Merino leather in an Individual Edition X5 M of mine!

I contacted the company that sells the advanced key and below is his reply.

"The system is actually designed to be universally used on any OEM vehicle.
We developed a Dodge/Chrysler specific install and started it on the forum.
You will need to determine if you need a key bypass or wire it directly into your vehicle. We supply all required components to install as part of the standard package. I would suggest checking out the Fortin website if you need a bypass unit."

I am going to contact my alarm guy to see if he can make this work for me.
