Headlights have a mind of their own!
Well, I finally had a chance to drive the X5 around this evening (I sure miss drivng her....fiancee has been driving it for a while). Anyway, I notice that the headlights have been moving up and down by themselves. Seems like thay have a mind of their own. Is there a leveling sensor I should look at? Any suggestions?
Cheers, Dan |
i believe they're called adaptive headlights?

Could be the leveling arm sensor, if I was in your shoes I would disconnect the battery and let the system reset. Could just be an electrical gremlin
|
That's the word...adaptive headlights. Is this the sensor that is located on the front right lower wishbone suspension? I just replaced that lower control arm a couple weeks ago. Again, as I'm driving, I can see the lights go all the way up, then down. Definitely not normal.

had a problem with my xenons randomly moving all the way down, and then back up, like they were resetting. it was happening during any slope changes.
the leveling arm sensor on the suspension failed. new one and everything is great. |
At least yours stays on. I could handle that but mine will shut off for a good 3-4 seconds and then come back on whenever they feel like it. I guess it is BMW's way of trying to make me a better driver.

Let us know how it goes

Well, I decided to order the autolevel sensor. Hopefully, it will get here quick. I hate having things wrong with the X.
I love her, but 60 bucks here, 450 bucks there is starting to take its toll on me. As I've said with the last two repairs, I sure hope this will be it for a while. Dan |
Well, received and installed the sensor this evening. Problem fixed. Also, I noticed the lights moving when I turn the steering wheel. I never knew I had adaptive headlights. Yippee! I do notice the autoleveling is more sensitive now.
Next up, the power steering leak fix.... |
