Just wanna introduce myself to the E53 community. I was refered by a member from bimmerforums that most of the x5 guys hang out here. Wife and I just purchased our 2nd bmw, an 05 X5 sport with the aero kit, 78k miles. So far the ride is amazing for an sav or suv what they are classified as. Pics will come soon, but it's silver w/black leather. Absouletly gorgeous looking. I've been lurking the pages and searches for the past few days to get alittle info here and there.

So honestly how is the DIY projects on these? Reletively simple or more complex? I'm guesing the prone issues are cooling systems, suspension and control arms, window regulators.

My other ride is an 98 e39 540ia sport. I do diy everything so I kind of have an understanding for bmw's. Not a master or expert but experienced with the 540.

Looking forward in talking shop with you guys!

Ya - same stuff as your 540, but add CV boots, front axles due to the AWD. Other than that - similar vehicles.

Thanks guys! It is the 4.4L. M62tu right? Is the 05 the single or dual vanos?

my 98 is pre vanos but I've read up on how to do the vanos seals.

I love workin on my rides. It is such an enjoyment being able to rebuild a car and making it look better than newer cars.
