Repoman is gonna love this one.. After yesterday
This morning my SES light comes on, since im still under CPO, went to the stealership, they told me my Air Intake Boot is bad? Its going to be $175 dollars for everything...
Wow... This will be my 3rd fix on my car in 3 months, and I only use it on the weekends.. However, this will be my last repair..... I wont be like repoman and put up with this. I love my BMW, but I like driving to laughlin and vegas alot. My intentions were to buy a E70 Diesel in the first place. I know if you read my other posts I just installed my OEM Trailer hitch, thats $848 dollars that could have been for my downpayment on my E70 X35D. From here on out I will be saving for my e70.... This place is still awesome! |
Sorry to hear that, Yes the E53 is a troubled X5 but if it is maintained properly it wont give out much troubles.
and not like it matters but the E70s just look horrible to me, i cant stand the new "x5" look. |
Do you guys think they are jiving me? or is this for real? I thought that maybe I forgot to put my gas cap tight correctly? has anyone heard of the Air Intake Boot problem?
|
Intake boots in BMWs seem to be low quality and frequently are a problem due to cracking and resultant intake leaks, giving "too lean" errors.
They seem to fail rather regularly after 4-5 years. I replaced one on my Z5 myself for about $55 of parts. It's typically not that difficult of a task if you are mechanically inclined. So, if you ever get an SES, read the code and find a lean error, checking the intake boot is is a good place to start. |
Im pretty mechanically inclined, I replaced my door carrier myself.. so I think a air intake boot must be easy... so maybe I should just by a OBD2 reader?

oops i feel dumb, I told the dealer to go ahead, didnt want to mess with it.. but now its getting really expensive... I could easily buy a X5 35d diesel and pay way less for gas and be very happy...
... umm.... |
its just a vacuum leak. put some black duct tape around your old one and that should solve it
|
Well I paid $177 to change out my Air Intake Boot.. wow.. I could buy my engine reset tool for $149.99..
|
our 2004 x5 3.0 has the boot intake tear too. indy fixed it for part only as he was doing other work...
you need to find a good indy and buy that reset tool. oil changes and spark plugs are 'dirt simple' on the 3.0 as well. if you don't want the x5 PM me and I'll take it. ours has 60,000 miles and runs like a dream... it will last for ever and i will be driving it into the ground... |
