difficulty putting into Drive

On my 2001 x5 3.0i I have just started to notice that it is a little rough shifiting into drive.

It shifts into park, reverse and neutral just fine. It also goes into sport mode just fine. But as it goes into Drive, it feels like it is catching on something.

Any ideas???

PS, any issue with shifting into drive while rolling backwards at 1 mph?

Yes on the rolling backwards and shifting into drive. The X has a tendency to dislike this move because all four tires have power to them and the various driveshaft/axle slippage factors react differently than a standard rear wheel drive only vehicle when you do the same. You need to be easy on the throttle. It'll tell you when you've overdone it.

It's never good for the tranny when you're moving in the opposite direction of the gear you're shifting into. It takes what, another second to wait and let it come to rest :tsk: ?

It also is tough to shift when it I am still, so wondering if here is a loose screw in the shifing mechanism. hmmmm
