X5 Release pressure

I have a 2002 X5 3.0 purchased it little over a year ago, yesterday i noticed that whenever I park the truck and within seconds after I turn off the engine I hear a pressure release sound...! not knowing where is it coming from or what is the cause. any idea ?

Do u have turbo diesel?

cimbro 04-06-2010 08:55 AM

It should be the pneumatic rear suspensions!

Very few 2002 x5 3.0's have air suspension, but if he does then that is it

I have the same sound as well!! you shut the x off.....get out, shut the door and by the time you are walking in front of the X you hear a swooshing release of pressure......

no worries....I have had that sound for a very looong time...I am not concerned.....

.........but if you spend the time and money to find out what it is...please let me/us know...

This is normal for 3.0i engines. You should be worried if its not making that sound after you shut off your engine.

Mine does it as well, and i've asked this question on the board before without an accurate answer. nothing to worry about.

Lebahawk? like in lebanese hawk?

I agree with rear air suspension, though tough to diagnose without
any of us "being there"...I have '01 3.0, with rear air, and sometimes
when parking on a crazy incline, (common at our Mtn house area),
I hear a "sigh" from the rear. Maybe it's jes' a fart, ;>)

The swooshing sound you been hearing fromt the front driver side fender .....That is from the cold air intake system.

the noise means your crankcase vent valve is working correctly to divert crankcase pressure after the engine is turned off.

Its very interesting, I don't think the noise or the pressure relief sound is coming off the suspension its from the engine bay, but it makes sense that the CCV after the engine off to breath off the excess air... the question is that is everyone with the 2002 3.0L gas engine are experiencing the samething ? Because I have a 2001 X5 as well in another region on the planet that has a 3.0L and I don't think its making the samething?
Thanks for the feeback guys.
