Aaron sorry to hear that, as far as the key and alarm yes the valet will disable the alarm because as Rob said there is a chip in there .

I like the idea of the keyless door handle cover, but what do you do if for some reason your remote fails to unlock the doors? :dunno:

For us owners in N.America, we also need the keyhole to put up the windows should we have used the remote to lower the windows, either intentionall or accidentally. With the keyhole covered you'd have to get back in and put the key in the ignition and manually raise the windows. It's a minor thing but a thing none the less. (European X5's will raise the windows if you hold the lock button on the remote. I guess they think us in NA will get our heads caught in the window.)

When you do try to start the car, it will not start and the OBC MID will turn on for you to enter the code. There are ways around it, which I will not mention here ;), but it should stop some less determined thieves. I have used it just to make myself feel better.

Rob's suggestion is a good one too. That's some wild stuff that they can do these days. Combine the deletion of the keyhole, the code, and disabling that spare key and you should be golden.

Just called a different dealer and spoke to a smarter service tech...
You guys are right - they can reprogram the car so that the missing wallet key won't start it! Made an appt. to do it on Friday.
So I ordered the keyless door handle cover to keep the guy out, and if he gets in anyway, he'll find that he needs a security PIN, which he won't have, and his key won't work anyway.

Thanks for all your help!

be careful doing this man, if you lock the keys in the car or the battery dies, you're screwed and you have to pry the cover off. Are you going to remove the lock cylinder?

Sorry to hear that. Go with Rob's suggestion. This reminds me of the story I read on Toadfly last year where the thief came first night to steal the car keys and returned later to steal the car. :tsk:
