2005 4.8is trade-in
Just a heads up in case anybody is looking for something like this.
I was over at Stevens Creek Audi the other day looking at the new Q7. Decided I would pass. Anyway - sales guy was actually one of the coolest I have met at a car dealer. Anyway - we are talking about BMW's and he sees my 4.6is and mentions they took a 05 in on trade on a new Q7. I figure it probably wasn't an is, but sure enough - he showed it to me and was indeed a black 2005 4.8is with 66K-ish miles. He said they gave the owner $21K for it. I was thinking that sounded pretty low - the dude thought it was pretty good. Anyway - KBB trade-in fair value is $21,700 and good value is $25K. That thing has to be worth $26K+ in a private party sale, so seems to me some money was left on the table. But not everybody likes to deal with that hassle. Just a heads up in case anyone in the bay area is looking for one - get ahold of the used car manager ASAP because they plan to wholesale it. Which surely they will not lose money on it. Might be a good grab for somebody - I would bet they would let it go for $23K or so if somebody called and made that offer. |
I just called
They had very little info, do you know the color or any details?

Never mind, they want $28,500 for it......

05 with 66k for $21k?! wow. Ours have about 61k right now... that's only how much it's worth??!! Time for a Q7. :D |
Sales guy thought they would wholesale it. But he could be wrong. $28.5K is a pretty optimistic price. But this is a pretty interesting data point on what a dealer will give you for trade-in and then try to sell a vehicle for. Seems to me they gave that guy a pretty raw deal. It should easily be worth $25K as a private party or dealership sale, yet they only gave the owner $21K for it. Hope they got a killer deal on the Q7 at least.
