take off shift knob
 

is there a way to take off the shift knob? I just need to take the leather boot off, and the only way to do that is by taking off the shift knob, because i do not want to cut the boot itself?

any ideas>?

Place it in neutral and pull it straight up. That is, as far as I'm concerned, the way to do it. I've done it about 5 times by the way. To put it back just push it in. Hope that helped!!!

haha ya thouht so, i was just scared it might be diff from my old e46 so i wasnt tryin to break anything.

I actually put it in D so I'd get a better angle but either way will work. Just make sure you don't slip and punch yourself in the eye. ;owned; It has happened and I will not admit whether it was to me.

If you are removing the leather boot, be very careful when dealing with the plastic frame that holds it to the mounting piece. It is fragile and if you break it, you cannot buy just the frame. You have to buy the entire thing and it is expensive.
