MK4 upgrade and sirius

I just purchased a 2002 X5 that currently has the MK3 navigation in it. I asked the dealer if I could upgrade to the MK4 (DVD) navigation and also add Sirius at the same time. The dealer told me he COULD upgrade to the MK4 (has not given me the price yet) but that once I did that, because I have a 2002, I would still not be able to add Sirius.

Does anyone have thoughts on this?? The main reason I am ugrading to MK4 is to be able to add Sirius (even though I am in a 2002). Do you guys have any recomendations of what I should do? My goal is to have Sirius (that is hard-wired and will run through my screen) and the better nav is a bonus.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

In addition to upgrading the nav computer, you will also need to upgrade your radio module to a 2004 or newer unit. Once you have these components then you are all set to add the BMW Sirius kit.

Any idea how much upgrading the DVD nav AND the radio unit will cost me? Do some people sell that on ebay?

The MkIV will likely run about $900 to $1000, and the radio module should be around $430.

Consider, though, that you'll likely be able to sell your MkIII and your radio module to recover at least some of these costs.

Is there a certain name for the radio module so that I can search ebay for it?

Also, can I JUST upgrade my radio module (so that I can get Sirius) and use the MK3 nav with it (without upgrading to the MK4)?

It's called the BMW Boardmonitor radio module. Here's one example, although this is a 2003 so it doesn't support Sirius - http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-Sat-Nav-Boar...QQcmdZViewItem

As for whether you can use this with a MkIII, I'm not completely sure about that. I seem to recall that Parag from AdvancedAutovations got Sirius working with his MkIII, but I don't know the specifics.

Also referred to as the Becker BM53 Radio module. There is a way to get MK III computers to recognize Sirius as well.
