help adaptive headlight problem
Today I was driving and I noticed that when I turn my steering wheel to the right the headlight move to the right but when I turn it to the left the headlight doesn't move to the left it only goes back to normal light position. Anyone else have this similar problem? Can someone please try it and see its the same as mine. I think that might be the problem causing the clunking noise when I turn my steering wheel side to side.

The adaptive headlights are designed not to go back past the midline, to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. In other words, it sounds like yours are working as designed.

I don`t know about the X mine does not have adaptive head lights, but on my sister acura RL the lights turn left and right !
some 1 asked the same before.. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...tive+headlight |
They move left and right on my 2005 'X'.
The lights follow the curve of the road and do cross the midline if the steering is over far enough, but it needs to be a pretty sharp bend. |
Yep. Left and right. They won't do it if you are at a stop and turn left from a standstill to avoid blinding traffic as mentioned above. If you are cruising on a curvy road, they should point both ways. Mine work that way on the '04

oh that makes sense thanks a lot. i thought there was something worng with it because during standstill it turns to the right but not left.

Headlights
I had the same question a while back and asked my service guy at Towne BMW (outside Buffalo, NY) to check 'em out. Sure 'nuf, they only turn to the right, and according to the test, were "working as designed. all normal". I checked out the manual, as well, and found the lights behaving as described. Then I read the foregoing and decided to test em again myself. Now, I can confirm the previous comments - they DO, indeed, turn to the left when the car is moving. They're great!
Anyway, with only an MA degree, I have concluded from this and other similar experiences, that this d___ car is a whole lot smarter than me. I just sit back and enjoy it! |
