I just used the "blue" regular one, I can get at target for $1.69. Never had any freezing problems or issues with it. I suppose you could use the "orange" lower temp rated one as well.

1stE53 04-21-2010 11:05 PM

I also use the blue stuff, but I did try a windshield wash booster. It is amazing!! I use P21s in one car and the original BMW stuff I got from HuskerX5 in my X. I was real skeptical but one squirt and wow! The cleanest windshield I've ever had aside from freshly washed one. Takes the bugs rite off.

X5 Meister 04-22-2010 01:04 AM

I only use the BMW stuff as well. And I was always concerned that boosters like from P21S or Wurth would break down AquaPel faster.

What is the AquaPel?
I wouldn't be surprised it the BMW stuff is P21s. They make a few things that Mercedes just stamps their own label on. The BMW shampoo smells just like the P21s stuff as well, has the exact same consistency too. They claim to be the supplier of these types of products for multiple German car makers. I am using 4 of their different products and have had great luck with them so far. Its only been a year since I discovered them though.

Bimmer Ese 04-22-2010 07:55 AM

I'll admit that I used the BMW approved clear stuff. It increases the resale value of the X5

A better form of rain-x. It's also made by the same company that makes the windshield on the E53.

 Thank you, I'm on it!

My wipers last about 5 years because I never use them, one more tool to keep me from using them :D

rlabair 04-22-2010 08:50 AM

The Bmw stuff aids wind resistance which reduces drag effectively increasing horsepower by 4-11 hp's plus improving gas mileage by 3-4 miles per gallon.:)

Happy to help:thumbup:

It's safe to use on all the windows however you'll get the best results on the front windshield. BMW even sells it. Here's also a great write-up of it:

As long as you don't get it mixed up with your blinker fluid.

X5 Meister 06-12-2010 12:13 AM

What's blinker fluid?

You really need to get out more....

Blinker Fluid [BF-01] - $8.99 : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items!

X5 Meister 06-12-2010 12:31 AM

Wow. Never heard of it. It is BMW recommended because I just looked over my maintenance plan and it doesn't mention blinker fluid maintenance. Could it be lifetime fill?

Rockmelon 06-12-2010 08:34 AM

JCL, how is it applied? blinker fluid is new to me too.

01 BMW_X5 06-12-2010 09:58 AM

Depends on the number of cylinders you have.
Just add to the master cylinder.

patholiar 06-12-2010 01:05 PM

sweet thanks! I just flushed the hazard light fluid so i'll do the same for the turn signals with some leftover dot 3 brake fluid.

...as sholes!

amacman 06-12-2010 01:54 PM

don`t forget to elbow grease the power steering .

The manufacturer recommends using a special pilot wrench, to remove the nut behind the wheel. Details in the link.

Back to the question you asked: no problem, you can mix any of them.

Rockmelon 06-15-2010 08:04 AM

blinker fluid...

X5 Meister 06-15-2010 11:50 AM

I checked with BMW and sure enough, it's lifetime fill. So honestly I am not going to change the blinker fluid at all. I'm sure it will be fine. However I did pick up an awesome set of cross drilled brake lines that I plan on installing this weekend. Can't wait!
Cross Drilled Brake Lines - $69.95 : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items!

01 BMW_X5 06-15-2010 02:35 PM

Bleeding the system with these lines is super easy.

X5 Meister 06-15-2010 02:38 PM

Yeah that is one advantage of using them from what I understand. What is amazing though is that the BMW brake system seems to use an enormous quantity of brake fluid (some people have reported using a drum of it (42 gallons). The manual clearly has a typo when they claim you can get away with only a liter. Nice goof BMW!

yeah and thereafter that will put your ABS to good use too. :nanana:

RMak 01-22-2011 08:31 AM

I just need someone's expertise on this... Correct me if i'm wrong, but the BMW windshield wiper fluid tank is the warmed but the actual lines that spray are not? So in the case, in cold weather, the lines still can freeze? Thanks..

Early this morning I woke up to about 12f degrees. My headlight and rear window washers worked fine, but my windshield one did not work.

1stE53 01-22-2011 10:31 AM

The windshield ones always freeze on me too. I don't think any of them are warmed. At least not in my 03 3.0. The Merc is heated and pressurized though. It did cost me $108 to replace a $.97 piece on that system though!

JCL 01-22-2011 06:10 PM

My spray nozzles are heated, nothing else is. Engine heat under the hood would help keep everything flowing. I use -45C windshield washer fluid myself.

Wayne's World 01-22-2011 11:36 PM

I use the RainX brand one with antifreeze year round because the extra alcohol content keeps the glass sqeuaky clean and does wonders for getting bird poop and bug splatter off every so often.
