Installing Bluetooth in my 03 4.4

So I want to install the bluetooth phone system into my 03 X5 4.4. It has the phone button on the steering wheel, but it does not work when you hold it.

I read online and it looks like it requires a Bluetooth module that is added in the trunk area underneath the Nav DVD and CD Changer area. I've compared my car to my friends 06 X5 4.4 who has the Bluetooth hands free from the factory and confirmed this. It also looks like my car has 2 of the 3 wires that connect to the Bluetooth module. I wonder if the 3rd one is for the BMW assist since my 03 does not have it and his 06 comes with it standard.

Does anyone know where I can get some information on adding the OEM Bluetooth feature to the car? Is it really as simple as buying and plugging in the Bluetooth module?

Thanks!

BTW, I know it's too much to ask for a DIY, but can one ADD the BMW Assist feature or is that a completely different ball game as I imagine it?

I used these instructions to install BT in my '03.

All the info you need is on the link below

http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...i-bus-car.html

Basically, get a ULF or TCU with bluetooth (refer to chart). Install the unit in the trunk (left), install the antenna (center console), install mic (overhead), pair the, enter pass key, good to go. Should take less than two hours:D

Be aware that list is out of date and inaccurate. For example p/n 84109120844 does indeed have bluetooth.

X5 Meister,
do you have a revised TCU/ULF list by any chance? Would love to have one

Not yet, but working on it. What I think would be more informative would be to know the hardware and software numbers of each unit. That will require a lot of contribution from people and I don't know how much support I'll get.

Yeah, thats a lot of information to compile and would require a lot of help from everyone. When I installed mine, the tcu/ulf list was very helpful.
