For Sale: 06 4.8is Lemans Blue

So, the wife and I got bored and we when to the dealership to take a look at an 06 4.8is in lemans Blue; the car only has 31k on the clock. I was extremely pleased walking away from the dealership. I was about to bargain with the dealership for an even trade with out 06 4.8is in sapphire black with 38k on the clock. The only difference from this truck to our is that the Lemans Blue did come with stock navi system; I was very confused about it. I thought that was pretty standard with this car. That did not matter because I am planning to install a Pioneer unit. I never really liked the stock unit; somewhat outdated. Were planning to pick up the car tomorrow and I'll be calling my BMW to bring the car to have it check. They even allowed me to swap my wheels and tires from my current x5 into our new x5. Eventhough, they just replaced all four tires with Toyo tires; but it looked too aggressive and too much road noise for my taste. The car is nearly flawless with an exception of one small door ding about they will have that fix at no charge. In all, we have a pretty nice day. Cant wait to bring her home and do a full detail....
.

Good stuff. Hop on that lemans

deanblue9 04-25-2010 10:35 PM

Thanks man. Yah, I can't wait to bring her home tomorrow and give a really clean bath and a full detail. However, her first stop will be at our bmw dealer to have the brakes change and an alignment.

jst2878 04-25-2010 10:39 PM

Have them do a diagnostic also. Ask them about intermediate levers

N S 04-25-2010 10:44 PM

I don't get it.....why go through the time, effort, and cost of trading in the exact same car with 8k mi difference and different color? Lemans blue is nice, but not worth all that IMO.

deanblue9 04-25-2010 10:46 PM

there was no COSTS involved; even trade......

Don't you have to pay registration, smog, and sales tax on the new vehicle? Those are all costs that you wouldn't have to had paid otherwise.

deanblue9 04-26-2010 08:02 AM

Like I have said, its pretty much an even trade. We don't have smog test in CT. I pressed really hard to be sure that I would walk away without paying anything other than getting new plates; which is like $75.00.

No state sales tax? That is really good.

askhao 04-26-2010 09:58 AM

if your X5 has been reliable, or there are small problems you are familiar with, i would keep it. Who knows what the lemans blue 4.8is has been through?

My 4.4i has been extremely reliable, and I wouldn't trade it even if someone offered me a similiar mileage 4.6...

just sayin'...

X5 Meister 04-27-2010 12:00 AM

I have to agree with the other posters. I don't get this at all. You are trading in your 2006 Sapphire Black 4.8is with navigation and 38,000 miles for a 2006 LeMans Blue 4.8is without navigation and 31,000 miles? Huh?

What are the dates of production of both cars btw?

Are you at least getting it CPO (and if not then you should ask yourself why) or with extended maintenance? Which dealer is this anyway?

Personally I think it's a terrible deal.

Ever heard of the expression: "Better the devil you know..."?

X5 Meister 04-27-2010 01:17 AM

No. Did you just make it up?

No. Check google. It means that you are better dealing with someone/something that you know than dealing with someone/something you don't know.

Do you think I'd really make something up?

X5 Meister 04-27-2010 01:29 AM

Sure why not, I make stuff up daily.

Welcome to the LeMans blue club.
Nav was an option along with heated steering and trunk tray.

deanblue9 04-27-2010 08:21 AM

As I have stated above; I don't really care for the BMW navigation system. Yes, the car does come with the trunk tray option; I love that option because the wife and I use it very often. The black sapphire production date is August; whereas the Lemans Blue production date is November. I have extended warranty on the Lemans Blue for 5 years or 100k. Yes, I did have my mechanic inspect the car before making the purpose. I have bought and sold many cars our the course of my life. Most people would hesitate and complain when they found there "dream" car but it's too far away. I am very particular about my car; I have gone as far as California to purchase my other vehicle.

In Colorado the trade in value reduces the taxable value of the vehicle. Thus a straight across trade as the OP did would result in no sales tax liability.

As for why he did it and whether it makes sense it's his vehicle and time. If he's happy with the deal that's all that matters.

X5 Meister 04-27-2010 09:34 AM

I disagree. We collectively should be happy about this transaction, and clearly we are not.

deanblue9 05-11-2010 07:24 AM

I really appreciate everyone's concerns and what not; we could have not been any happier with the Lemans Blue. The Lemans Blue is driving better then sapphire black; we're not experiencing the down shifting situation like we did with the Sapphire Black. Its going to the dealer next week to have all the cracked trim pieces replaced and the peeling steering cover replaced; I was able to have the service manager to replace it with the M cover at no cost. I have a really good relationship with the service manager; he has been our SA for about four years now.

X5 Meister 05-11-2010 09:13 AM

Which one is the M trim that fits the sports steering wheel? Picture?

deanblue9 05-11-2010 09:18 AM

He did not mentioned, but he stated that the steering wheel covers are the same on the M as the 4.8is. Will post some pictures once I get the x back from the dealer.

X5 Meister 05-11-2010 09:44 AM

The sport steering wheel on the 4.4 is the same as on the 4.8 and neither have an M logo. I'm curious to see this.

deanblue9 05-11-2010 10:40 AM

In think you miss understood me, hes planning to replace it the M3 or M5 steering cover.

X5 Meister 05-11-2010 10:49 AM

Well then I'm definitely confused and I think so are you. This is the 4.8is and 4.4i Sport package steering wheel. Which is what I assume you have. The cover of an M3 or M5 steering wheel will not fit it.

deanblue9 05-11-2010 10:55 AM

Like I have said, that is what the service manager is telling me. I'll confirm with next week. I pretty sure you're correct my friend.

X5 Meister 05-11-2010 11:21 AM

Hey - maybe he gave you the M steering wheel? THAT would be fantastic.

deanblue9 05-11-2010 11:45 AM

That would be wonderful. But, I will with next Monday and I will keep u posted.

dragoncoach 05-11-2010 12:57 PM

Wow! You and your wife must have been REALLY bored in order to go out to a dealership and trade X's! :wow: When my wife gets bored, we go shopping as well....but usually not for cars. Congrats on your "new" X. The main thing is you and the wife are happy with the car and the deal.

Uh, yes we do have a smog test in CT, every 2 years for cars that are 2007 and below....what do you think that sticker is for on the windshield? They read the OBD computer and verify that all systems are operational.

No, cars don't go on the dyno like they used to, all 96+ cars are now simply read with a computer...

Enjoy your new 4.8is...

Chris

deanblue9 05-11-2010 03:15 PM

Thank you everyone. Yes, I am aware of the smog test. Once again, all of those prices were already factored into the price.

deanblue9 05-11-2010 03:18 PM

Oh don't get me wrong, she does a fair amount of mall shopping and online shopping. We're very happy with the x thus far.

BGM, you don't have to be rude and play hate. I am simply stating the the facts. I'll be detailing the x this week and post some pictures after I have the Navi installed.

X5 Meister 05-12-2010 12:47 PM

He was just joking around.

TwinsPoppa 05-12-2010 01:20 PM

Congrats and enjoy!

StanF18 05-12-2010 02:23 PM

TO each their own. Congrats. Not sure I would go through the exercise of trading in one vehicle for essentially the EXACT SAME vehicle with essentially the SAME mileage? Actually, I'm POSITIVE I would not go through that exercise.

If I ever get that bored, I usually pop in a Family Guy DVD. Or go do some bench presses. I don't say to myself "I'm going to go trade my Titanium Silver 2006 4.4i with 90,000 miles....for an Imola Red 2006 4.4i with 83,000 miles."

X5 Meister 05-12-2010 02:25 PM

While I agree that it's pretty crazy in general, I will admit that if I found an identical car in Carbon Black I'd do it myself.

TaMbALoLoNg 05-13-2010 08:03 PM

I'm really trying to contain myself here but i really smell BS. Just like all of you, we've all bought a few cars before. I have yet to meet a reputable dealer that conducts business with an even trade and no profit. Their car has less milage, a harder to find color, navi plus throw in the extras(emblems) all for an even trade. Hmmmm. I'm smelling something.

X5 Meister 05-13-2010 08:28 PM

If you are saying, what's in it for the dealer, then yes my friend you are not the only one scratching their head.

nom3rcy 05-13-2010 11:56 PM

I don't see anything odd about this at all.

Black is far easier to sell than Blue - rarity does not help the dealership in this case and they are probably looking at the ability to turn it over faster.

The mileage is higher, but they can probably get the same money or like I said sell it faster. It could have been sitting on the lot there for a while.

The OP got s great deal - he has a color he loves, something new, and almost a year's worth of lower mileage. NAV isn't a big deal since it is a pretty outdated interface anyways.
