Rear shocks for self leveling suspension
My rear shocks on the '03 4.4i (sport package) are toast but can't find rears anywhere that are suitable for self-leveling suspension.
Dealer wants 350 each! Anyone swapped these from an aftermarket ource at a better price? Thx. |

WHEN THIS MESSAGE APPEARS ON MY 2001 TRUCK X5, I JUST BACK UP WITH THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT: 0.1 MILE VERY SHORT, AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF!!! AND START THE ENGINE BACK ON! YOU WILL NOTICE THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED. HOWEVER IN SOME CASES, YOU WILL PROBABLY SEE THE MESSAGE APPEARS AGAIN AFTER A FEW MONTHS AHEAD...

I just checked getbmwparts.com and they have them for $228 each. How do you know the shocks are toast? |
When I stop it feels like an 80s GM car with no shocks. It bounces up and down when I stop. I have well over 80k on the clock. My 06 does not do this (tho is not perfect either) at over 60k mls.
Given that I got the 4.4 at 44k it is likely these are the ones that came from factory. On my MB M-class the Bilstein HDs worked terrifically well (I changed after I got to Germany and the OEMs felt very unstable on the autobahn) but from reading here they are not all that suited to the X. So, I thought oem might be better. |

So why was the 4.6 that was made in 02-03 only have rear air? The 4.8 started in 04 and was standard full air suspension and optioned on the 4.4. |
