As most of you know

I just purchased my 06 4.8, I do not know when or what type of oil was used in her for the last change..... This bothers me! I like knowing what is what in my cars!

I would never chance it in my races cars, do you take the chance here? I mean its not like I drive aggressively in my X.... :dunno: I am thinking about just dropping it and know what I have.....

For the captain's of obvious, yes I checked the level, no I didn't taste it, yes I know what the book says on oil :stickpoke, and on, and on, and on....... You guys know these SAV's like the back of your hand, so, opinions please?

THX

thats smart, drain the oil, and try to guess whats in it? i think i would just change the oil, that would be the bright idea to do.

:iagree:

Change it. You don't know what type of oil or filter were used last. I would not trust running it long-term. It isn't expensive to do and it is better to be safe than sorry, imo.

I bought my car from a non-BMW dealer and I know for a fact they didn't use an OE filter or oil. Probably wouldn't have been a good idea to run a filter designed for 5-7.5k miles as long as the dash lights indicate.

It's just oil...
$7 Quart, 9 Quarst + a Filter....
If you want a baseline, then do a OCI and set your baseline...

I've ran Castrol, Edge, Mobil 1, Royal Purple of various viscosity in many of my Bmw's, with some performing better than others, but all work well. My e30 had 230k, 530i has 108k, M3 has 128k, X5 has 85k. Pick a viscosity that matches your driving style and climate, change the oil and filter regularly and relax. The easiest way to pick your oil is to stick with Bmw's recommendations for your vehicle.

:iagree: ...it was some kind/brand of synthetic oil.

Change it, put in what you want, have a bev and
forget about it.

Your car is fine; it is not a ProStock car, badly in need of a change.
