Just replaced LCD screen in Nav monitor!
 

As the title says, I just replaced the LCD screen in my Nav/radio monitor. Big difference over the old one. Its "new" again. The old screen degraded ever so slowly, I just got used to it, until I realized that I was straining to even see it. The new LCD screen is an exact replacement made by Sharp ( as the original ). I Sourced out of Hong Kong. I was unable to source it within the USA. Took me an hour to replace it, start to finish. But it could be done faster. I was taking pictures with my cell phone of the steps. Minimal tools necessary, but no ham fisted mechanics need apply. These components are delicate, and cleanliness is a must Total cost was $138.00 for the screen and $26.00 for DHL delivery. Payment was done by Paypal. It took one week from payment to delivery to my hands.

If there is any interest, I could put together a DIY. To date, this seems to be the least expensive way to update the monitor screen. I am amazed at what I was putting up with.

please post the link to where you got this? i have an lcd that needs to be replaced.. lots of dead pixels on the nav lcd screen...

How the hell did you find this??? Yes please post a thorough DIY with before and after pics if possible. Can you also post exact measurements (in millimeters) of the uninstalled LCD panel? I'm curious how much of it is covered by the bezel, etc. The size of the installed panel with bezel in place I know is:
163.0 mm diagonal
144.0 mm wide
79.0 mm tall (height)
16:9 orientation

I was going to search for a solution to a failing Navi screen. I considered a replacement but it's borders on the expensive side. I would love for you to give us a little more information on your DIY. I would imagine it involves soldering and a little rewiring but that shouldn't be a problem. Please elaborate.

i don't think this would require soldering. most lcd screens have a ribbon connector that goes into a clamp style slot (thats how they are on laptops, nintendo ds, and many other electronics devices).

i would imagine its just taking the head unit out, dissassembling the casing and unclamping the ribbon cable to remove the old lcd screen... when i get mine i'll take pictures for a write up as well.
