pain sharing - alternator
Hi guys,
today, I'm bearing bad news, as I was puting a new water cooled alternator in my E53 (6 bolt pattern), I didn't realize, I was pinching the ground thick cable, so as I was tightening down, I heard a crack, and guess what, the housing was broken, two out of the 6 tabs broke, I believe this is the lower timing case. I used some J & B weld, hopefully, 4 out of 6 bolts will hold, if not, I'm screwed.....very bad way to start a weekend.... :bawling: |
i would think 4 of 6 would be ok... not optimal but ok. unless those 2 are main load bearing. just be carefull because I wouldn't want to think of all the stuff you would mess up if your belt spun your alternator into your radiator fan and into all that important stuff up front. :dunno:

You should be ok. Torque to spec with a new gasket ring

I remember seeing someone else on here have the same problem and they used the same solution. (worth searching down) Just make extra sure you get it bonded back together properly and have the part the seal hits perfect. Maybe put a thin smear of hylomar from autozone on the sealing surface as extra security.

Thank You all for the input!
I will let you now how it turns out, M. |
