Auxilary Fan

When is the X5's Aux fan supposed to come on?

Mine does not spin up at all! I am concerned. However the engine has seen no damage as I can tell. There is no SES or CheckEngine light on.

Another issue: When the Alternator Regulator on the car was replaced; the heater didn't blow correctly (made a sound as well) and stumbled. Until a few mins.

1) What is the trigger on the fan? I've tried driving the car hard on purpose (not revving it, just fast highway driving) and it still doesnt turn on.

2) Could this be connected to the mentioned service?

Cheers,

Persian

I am having the same problem with my A/C Electric Fan, it does not run even though I turn A/C on. Now, I am afraid to turn on A/C. BTW, I have 2001 BMW X5 4.4i. Mechanic told me that I have a bad fan and need to replace. Should I replace a new A/C fan or do some more research.

did you also ever replace anything near the alternator?

I had starter and alternator replaced about 2 years ago and about 6 months ago, I had broken radiator and had replaced a new one, then I found out my A/C fan never worked since then.

Okay, I am going to check it out tomorrow. Maybe the mechanic messed up my Aux plug/power.

The Aux fan is easy to replace... But I'll check anyway.

I'll keep you informed.

I am kind of tired with BMW X5 now, it causes a lot of problems from time to time and it costs too much money and time. I am going to get rid off my BMW X5. BMW built terrible car and I am going back to Japanese car shortly.

update: it started working, all the noise is gone.
what happened:
i drove the car with the fan blowing at max, hit the AC and then drove into a mall parking spot to grab a coffee. As soon as i shifted to N the fan started spinning up faster and faster and the clunk clunk noise disappeared.

i turned the car off, the fan kept spinning a little and then shut off.

no clue what happened... but it works.

:dunno:

Did you turn on AC to max and shifted to N (Neutral)? I am going to try, if it works, you save my life.

Now, have you noticed whether AC fan on as soon as you turn on AC? I look at my friend's X5, AC fan runs about 30 seconds after he turns on his AC.
