Problem Resetting Service Indicators
 

Took the 2004 X5 to my local Firestone Service Center and had the oil and filter changed.
Also had the rotors turned and the pads and sensors changed.
They have not been able to reset the service lights and the Brake Lining reminder warning. They have a scan tool that is suppose to reset these indicators.
I have tried the procedure that is posted on this site for resetting the lights and it does not work.
I really don't want to go back to a BMW dealer unless there is no other resolution.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

As far as i can remember no reminder warning in 2004 x5 that would come up if you do your regular maintenance, if your brakes go and your cluster says check brake lining that means your local shop did not change your brake sensor or they damaged the sensor (1 for front 1 for rear). how i know i just painted my calipers so i know can be easily damaged. I MAY BE WRONG but good luck.

Sarb, I'm talking about the 5 green lights in the dash that have to be reset after an oil change. When reset, there should be 5 green lights showing.
When there is only one green light showing that's when you are suppose to change the oil.
The new brake sensors were installed properly along with new brake pads.
The Firestone service center where the work was done has not been able to reset the green light and the brake lining warning light.

1. Key in 0 or off position.

2. Press and hold odometer button and turn key to 1 or acc. position.

3. Keep button pressed until any of the following words appear in display: "oil service" or "inspection", with "reset" or "re". For vehicles with "high cluster", the fuel amount (in litres) remaining until next service is displayed (i.e. 3224).

4. Press and hold button again until "reset" or "re" flash. If there is no "flash", minimum consumption value has not been met.

5. While display is flashing, press button briefly to reset service interval indicator. After display has shown new interval, the following will appear in display for approx. 2 seconds:"END SIA"

There is no reset required on the brake pad warning light. If you replace the sensor, the light goes out. If you replace the sensor and the light doesn't go out, it indicates an open circuit, either the new sensor is faulty or the wiring harness was not connected to the sensor correctly. Did they replace both sensors, the front and the rear?

What is the current status of your service interval lights? Are there still any green lights lit?

As for the brake pad warning, assuming that the pad sensors are good, here is how you reset the warning indicator. Turn the key to position 2 but
don't start the car then just wait for 30 seconds or so until the warning light goes out.

Took the X-5 back to Firestone this AM.
Went thru the service re-set procedure several times and it finally worked.
All is well now.

So it's possible to reset the service interval indicator lights without having to use the reset tool? How cool is that? Will this work on my 2003? I'm down to one list before the next service, which I plan to do myself, so I'll definitely be giving this a tryl

Might have to try it several times, but it should work.

I changed my oil last week.... had 2 green bars left... I just went outside and tried that procedure and it worked.. :)
