X5 2004 Non Nav Stock Amp Remote "ON" Question?
Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to remotely turn on the stock amp from the dash harness.
I got one those harness kits and it says the White Wire is the Remote On, but when I put power to it, nothing happens. Amp is not on as far as I can tell. I have sound going from my Carputer sounds outs to the harness. Help me please :dunno: |
you replaced the factory radio with aftermarket and you want to use the existing stock amp??
|
DO you have DSP amp or premium sound system....
|
2 Attachment(s)
Premium Sir. Yes, I am hooking up my Carputer up. I am just getting the wiring sorted before mounting up the Touchscreen and PC.
I am wondering if the other set of wires on the stock harness plug aren't being touched by the Harness Adapter I bought from Metra have anything to do with it. You can see in the first pic that the lower row with a black and a white pug aren't being used in the adapter. |
Second pic goes to the lower portion of the stock stereo

It has been years since the install, but to turn your new aftermarket radio, you have to tap into a fuse in the glovebox, that will be your remote turn on. You can use a test light to see which fuse gets power with car on and off, I want to say its the windshield wiper ones that was used 15 or 10amp fuse...but the white wire in the back off the dsp amp i used to jump to power my two aftermarket amps, i never used my oem amp. I hope this helps.

Hello,
It's not the Carputer that is having the problem turning off and on via the ignition. It's the Stock Amp that I can't get to turn on. Eventhough I am sending 12 volts to the Remote Turn-on amp wire on the harness. |
According to this. The lower black plug and white plug on main harness plug have nothing to do with the Amp.

was the amp working before, was there recent rain, did u check fuses in the back passenger side for the radio to make sure...just throwing some things out there, my dsp amp got wet, and when it dried it came back on....then a few more times of this and it died on me.

Amp works perfect. I just put the original stereo and cd player back in so my wife can listen to the radio tomorrow.
|
Ok, figured it out why the Stock Amp was not turning on. My Power Supply auto amp on wire was only putting out 6.45 volts. I need to check with the manufacturer why it's not at least 12. Anyways, used my Ignition On wire and walla, it turns on.
I got another question now. The Stock Amp doesn't seem like it's amplifying the sound much. I have my Carputer at max volume and it is average but not loud. I hook up the Stock Stereo back up and I can crank the volume. Would this have to do with how many watts the Carputer is putting out vs what the Stock Stereo is putting out? Or is there another wire that may need to be activated in order to amplify it more (a loudness button per se). Any ideas? |
Bumping an old question because I can't get my stock amp to come on and I'm having no luck searching.
01 X5 4.4 with DSP no nav. What I'm simply trying to do is use an aftermarket deck, then use the stock amp, stock speaker and stock sub. I'm not interested at this moment in routing wires, RCA's, replacing factory amps with stock amps, etc...I just want the aftermarket stereo and everthing else to be stock for now. I've got an adapter that plugs into the stock harness, which then gives me bare ends for power, ground, speakers, etc but touching the remote turn on from the aftermarket deck to the 3-4 remaining from the adapter isn't turning the factory amp on, so I've got zero sound. I've done an install like this YEARS ago, but I also ran RCA's from the deck to an afermarket amp and fiberglassed an 8" sub into the factory enclosure..but I don't remember how I powered he stock speakers. |
To use the stock amps I put the CD player in back under where the changer would be if I had it & used it's wires to keep my system on.
I used this video. https://youtu.be/_pF12Ey26Qs?t=2m40s There is another pin that needs power or it turns off after 15 minutes. |
He shows the pins needed on the back on the deck, but not close enough to see what I need to connect to where the amp/changer is. Halfway there.
|
It is currently disassembled in my X and the CD player is back in the dash awaiting a replacement HU.
I think the extra was 13, I am certain one is 9 & another 5. |
Are you referring to the backside of the CD player or in the compartment where the amp is? I've got a CD changer back there as well; do I need to unhook that and use one if it's connectors?
|
Bump since you've done this...I can see the connections on the backside of the deck but I'm still curious as to what/where things hookup inside the hatch area.
|
Bump for 5 min of your time.
|
I will be reinstalling my DVD NAV tomorrow & restoring the CD player to the floor of teh trunk. I will take detailed pics with the numbered wires & corresponding pins.
|
Thank you, sir...much appreciated and right before Bimmerfest :D
|
It is 9, 16, the one above 16 & the one left of 16.

Once again, I can see the connections on the back of the CD player in the YouTube video...what I don't know is where and what to connect to inside the amp/cd changer area.
|
I do not have the changer. If you want to keep it you'll need to find other connections. I don't remember which it was but it was readily available via searching.
Considering your lack of appreciation & attitude I owe you answers you can work it out without me. |
I don't care to keep the CD changer, nor have I seen anything saying how I can keep it...it's not readily available and I'm sure it's not even remotely compatible with my Erisin stereo that I'm installing. I mentioned the amp/CD changer area for nothing more than a reference to the area in which I need to know where to hook things up.
Lack of appreciation? I asked for the connections in the amp/changer compartment, not the ones behind the deck that have already been pointed out in the prior video...he didn't show where they went either, otherwise I wouldn't be asking. I don't have an attitude, I just don't have an answer either. Thank you for pointing out the back of the deck, but once again, where do the connection go into the compartment area itself is the question. Quote:

Feel free to copy and paste my apologetic PM here because my profile is set up to where it doesn't save sent messages.
I'm not seeing a picture where the 4 wires from the back of the CD player that connect into the trunk area to specific harness. I see a pic of connections to the back f the CD player, the CD player tucked into a rats nest of wires, your amp installation, your subwoofer (good job, I fiberglassed my stock enclosure), your MID relocation (i did the same last time and will have to do it again) and that's it. I'm still not seeing the other half ofnthe connections, so maybe you can point it out again to myself and others in the future who'll use this thread to do the same. |
I'm not sure what else you want me to say to you here. It seems like you're trying to get your pound of flesh from me when you missed what I was asking for in the first place. Both you and the guy in the video showed the same thing, the connections on the back of the radio, while completely glazing over what connections need to be made within the amp/compartment area itself. Will you please help me out?
|
As I said, I don't remember which specific Changer wires. It is power, the ibus wire, ground & the second power to keep it on beyond 15 minutes. If you look at the wires going into the changer it should be apparent which is which.
I'm not into "pounds of flesh". |
So I'll remove the CD changer (which is fine since I won't be using it anymore anyways) and I'll be making the 4 connections from the deck into the CD changer harness, which all should somehow be obvious. Got it.

I hate this site sometimes, why cant it compress images on its own!!! So annoying when trying to get help!!
So I removed the halfass installed CD changer which was secured via zipties. It has a small harness with three pins connected to it, then a single coax cable that runs to the amp. There's also a single coax by itself that runs into the floor but connects to nothing. 20150502_143044_zps0lxlyt5m.jpg Photo by m5james | Photobucket Someone before me did this funny single wire to 4 wire connection that runs to nothing. Upon closer inspection of the single-to-four wire connection here, the wire simply feel out onto my hand, so someone has been back here before doing something. 20150502_143156_zpsxtmxmk9m.jpg Photo by m5james | Photobucket I've got three harnesses running to the amp, a single coax running off the amp that connects to the CD player. 20150502_150221_zps1jcgczlz.jpg Photo by m5james | Photobucket I've got two harnesses (and the above mentioned coax) that arent connected to anything, but I assume they're if I had navi, which I don't. 20150502_150246_zpsnczpf7wn.jpg Photo by m5james | Photobucket None of this is obvious as claimed... |

So using these pics I came up with this and it finally works. Onto the next projects!
