MAF REPLACED!

Ok, so I thought I would give a little write up on my experience. The last few months my 03 4.4i w 80K miles was running sluggish, the rpm's were slow getting up and felt like the car was bogging down, almost as if i had a small trailer i was towing. I could sense this from 0-30mph after 3rd or 4th gear the truck would rev and accelerate like a champ. So I decided for $155 via ebay Germanautosupply I got the Bosch MAF. It took me almost 45 minutes to weasel the old one out, this required loosening air filter box, and the big hose with a flat screwdriver and wiggling. Hardest part was removing the damn connector as I don't have enough strenght to squeeze the tabs, so I used a flat screwdriver and pushed it from the bottom and out and this loosened it enough for me to pull the connector off the flow meter. After installing it back and took it for a spin, the rpm's were crips and fast, the car was now running like 8 cylinders instead of 7!

mine gave me a check engine light.... i changed mine a few months ago...

Anyone know of a cheap way to repair them? like change the inside or sensors from another cheaper car?

Depends if you have the 6 or 8 cyl engine.

I've heard of specific VW and Hyundai MAFs being exactly the same as the ones found on our engines.

Congrats! I did the same and boy did it make a difference. The resistors in the MAF can change over time and performance will gradually suffer. You won't notice it all at once. Those ebay replacements are crap though. I tried two of them and they gave weird throttle hesitations and sometimes codes. I went with a NEW Bosch for $143 and it's been great so far.

I bought mine off ebay, but it wasn't the no brand ones from china for $67, it was the real deal Bosch with the matching part numbers, 155 shipped priority mail!
