X5 whooshing sound apon acceleration
Well in my 4.6is apon acceleration it makes this whooshing noise like a BOV,I have no idea what it is,Just happens apon shifting between gears when flooring it.
Anyone had this problem?Lmk please. thanks :dunno: |
I think I might have same "whistle" in between shifts, planning on changing trans fluid and filter. A few people from these boards suggested to me to search chirping, woot, and a few other words I can't remember off the top. They might give u more ideas.

i personally dont think its a problem. my 4.6 makes the same sound when shifting at higher rpm's. a quiet bov is exactly how to describe it. its not all the time either. more or less when its cold. once the engine gets up to temp it goes away. i was always curious though what is was making the noise.

I have the same noise and my tranny was rebuilt recently. Did the noise before the rebuild as well.

i read somewhere in this forum that says that a tear at the air intake duct can cause some kind of whistling sound during acceleration
|
i get this if i floor the pedal to the floor and i also get a whistling type noise but then goes away when i start to drive it in a normal manor

I know this sounds crazy but this is what I did. I had the same wooshing sound you describe, when I turn off the radio the wooshing sound goes away. At least for my car it appeared to be some interaction with the audio system.

It sounds like a mixture of a bird chirp and a BOV. If that's what you're talking about, don't worry about it. I actually found the same problem on a customer's E55 with a ported throttle body. The throttle plate most likely rubs a little and is feathered closed by the computer so that there is no lurch when you let off the gas. |
My 4.8 does it too. Whoosh sound on hard acceleration sounds like a valve. Haven't thought it to be a problem.
