gps mount for x5 (e53)

I know this subject has been cover a lot. But I look at all the gps usual gps mount for an after market gps but still have not found one that is satisfactory. Anyone have any ideas or a mount.

Like an mount that does not take away any features of the car. Like a vent mount would cover some of the vent or a cupholder mount will use up a coup holder ect.

thanks

yeah, i've been looking too. my truck had a previous satelite radio unit that was mounted on a kudo or pro clip mount...i took out the sat radio and used the existing mount and bolts, bought and extra garmin clip, and drilled a hole and used a screw to hold...i can take pics for you if you like...its not bad, but no vents are covered...now as going to run a hardwire power line to it or used the bmw flashlight socket to power it.

I had this for a year and a half for my Garmin: THe Oval base was stuck to the dash.

but took it off because it detracted from the look of the interior.

Now I have this:

called a friction mount.

There is a big rectangular spot in the middle of the dashboard that seems to fit a 16:9 nav screen pretty nicely. I'd go with that as my first choice.

People have had good things to say about ProClip Mounting System*-*Device Holders and Dashboard Vehicle Mounts

Agreed. We have a Proclip setup in my wife's VW GTI and I'm about to get the same setup for my X - Top notch stuff. Slightly on the pricey side, but you'll probably spend $100 in other products before you go with Proclip like we did trying to find something that worked decent.

I don't like any of the vent mount style clips either. Here is how I chose to do it in my e36. I used the adheasive disk and the EasyPort mount kit that came with my TomTom. I really like this location because it is very easy to view without looking too far away from the road and it also doesn't obstruct the use of any vents. I have heard from a few that removal of the disk will not harm the dash at all.

When I am not using the TomTom, I can pop the unit out of the bracket, then fold the bracket over and lay it flat. I also have the option of removing the bracket from the disk all together by simply pulling the suction cup off of the disk. That way only the disk remains on the dash.

Keep in mind that I took this photo from a low level. When sitting in the drivers seat, the dash is much lower, so this does not obstruct the view out of the windshiled at all.

The link below is what I used for my last 1,500 mile trip. I think the position on top of the dash facing the driver it puts the GPS unit in is better ergonomically than built-in display or the permanent vehicle mounts shown. I have no trouble seeing the display in bright sunlight. The downside is that you'll probably want to hide it if you park your X5 in a place where it's possible the nav unit will get stolen. The whole unit fits in the storage under the armrest.

For longer trips I use the power adapter and aux in both running from the glove box. Around town, I usually don't need GPS so I have my Kensington Bluetooth adapter hooked up to the power adapter for the flash light so that I can stream tunes from my phone to the aux in, in stereo.
