Drivers side front door lock stopped working!

Anyone have this problem? 2004 E53 3.0. I know its probably the door lock actuator but wanted to see if anyone else had another idea on what I might be before I shell out the $200+ for the door lock actuator.

Any help would be greatly appricated!

Wel found an online dealer for the door lock actuator for $135. Replaced it and now it works great!

Door Lock Actuator

I have the same problem but couldn't find an actuator for under $190 shipped!

I found some universal actuators for $15, but doubt they'll fit. The only thing I found was the entire Driver Door Lock MOTOR that included the actuator.

Where did you buy your part? And thanks for following up on your post from June.

$136.19 Its the whole unit. Cant buy the generic actuators....

Door Lock Motor Unit

Thanks a bunch, ordering today!

BTW- nice X, same wheels, color, & glass trim as mine!!

Thanks!

It took me about an hours or so. Just a tip...when you have most of the plastic clips out of the way, there is one in the middle that needs to be played with. Just lift the door panel straight up to get the door panel off.

Door Lock Motor w/ Actuator // Follow-up After Installation

Got it. Thanks.

FYI for future readers of this thread- order this part on-line to get the $136 price. If calling their toll-free number, they charge $200.

This is an assembly, can't just buy the actuator.

Update:
This fixed the problem. To do this job, you'll need a torx30 to unbolt it from the door jam side. If doing the driver side, you will need to remove the lock cylinder. It is very easy to do that- just unscrew 1 torx bolt from the access hole in the door jam and it just slides out. Once it's out, the new Door Lock and Motor will pop right out. Disconnecting the electrical connection and both door handles is easy to do even before unscrewing the lock/motor.

Did you order the 00-06 or 00-04 model year part? I have an 04 E53 4.4 if that makes a difference . . .

thunderX 11-12-2010 03:14 PM

Which one?

Just call them to clarify... I did.

But the part I got was the one for $136. You need to specify which door and year.

Works great now, even in cold weather! lol

What were the symptoms when this part went bad? I have an intermittent problem opening the rear door from the inside. If its locked, when you pull on the inner handle the lock pops up then on the second pull it doesnt do anything. I can usually open it from the outside, but that is getting harder too now. I already replaced the carrier thinking that was the problem, but it wasnt.

Door Lock / Different Issue

Your problem is different than what I fixed- mine was not unlocking w/ the remote when temps got below 60 degrees F.

Your's sounds more mechanical- I'd check the linkages from the handle to the latch mechanism. The cables really won't stretch much, so I'd look to see if the ends are seated properly (the bike-like cable ends).

Good luck.

I just ordered my front passenger side actuator, price has gone up to $145 :-( I've been inside the door a couple times already, is there any tips or tricks aside from "have a Torx30 handy"? all the times i was in there i never looked at how to get at this to replace.

Tips?

Not really, just what I posted previously above. It's pretty straight-forward.

Yep, my left rear door lock actuator (assembly) and door carrier assembly (lock and hardware base) went out on me too. I will be fixing it this weekend if the parts arrive on time. Times are tough, so I shopped around pretty hard. The best price I found was BMWMercedesparts.com - I got the actuator for $150.50 and the carrier assembly for $86.16, no taxes and free shipping. Total $236.66, not bad. Thanks everyone for posting your instructions to help me do this job easier. Take care.
