Question on E46 ///M3 seats into E53
 

Trying to retro fit on Pre-LCI 2001 4.4i

I read around the forums a little bit and wanted to come up with a few things about the seat retro-fits.

As some people said,(1) the E46 should be a direct swap? (M3 seats)
Keep in mind that my current seats are non-sport / no lumbar / not heated / electric.
So,(2) would it be possible to use seats from the E46 even though it may have the options i don't? (aka Will the seat still do its basic functions even though the new one has the extras)-in a wiring view, i don't expect the options to work.
(3) Would it be possible to make the lumbar work if the seats came with it?
(4) what would they compatability of E39 m5 seats be?

So if the seat was heated and i didn't have the wiring for it, it would still retain its regular electric movement functions?

The e46 seats are direct swap for the seat rails and power plugs.You still need to wires the heated option as your car didn't came with that option,and the extra power lead for the lumbar .
BTW the E46 sport seats came from 4 doors model ( NON M3) will looks better and color match then those M3 seats.http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ics-added.html

Just what I was looking for. I have fully loaded E46 seats from an 04 M3 (heat, lumbar power, memory). Would this be a direct swap?

No not a direct swap the m3 seats have the seatbelt mounted to the bottom of the side pillar while the X5 seat belt mounts to the actual seat rail. You will need to swap the outermost seat bracket rail or use a 4dr sport seat form an e46.

Can these brackets be swapped between the two? To the best of your experiance, does all the wiring work?

Can anyone confirm sport seats from an E46 sedan are plug and play? I came across a set for pretty cheap and have always wanted the sport seats.

If anyone has any updates on this please chime in, I searched and most of the threads are old and without clear info.

I've just purchased some M3 seats also so I'd be very interested to find out if I can just install these straight in to my X5.

what seats/runners bolt into a E53??

I would get a micrometer and mic the thickness of the plate buckle that you insert into seat receiver. I installed comfort on my X5 and everything fit find except the belt plate buckle in my X5 was thicker so I could not push it into the receiver. I just swap the receiver from my old seat with the new set. If you don't have heated seats already you will need to swap the control above the ash tray on the console for one with the heated seat controls in it.

Hey, mrbmwx5 — tried to pm you but it wouldn’t accept. Couldn’t find any other threads on e92 seats in e53. Is that what you had done? Looking to put e92 m3 seats in my 4.6is. Have a set in me 335i and find th to be absolutely perfect for sports and comfort. Thanks!
